If I'm not mistaken, the original batch of F40's was 200-229.
Number 230 was from the next order, so the paint scheme may have gotten modified.
Neal is mistaken, kinda. You'll note the pic in the original post is the original "as delivered" paint. The pics that Neal posted are of a subsequent repaint, and that changed everything.
#200 was a good-running engine, as I recall. The original batch had more power and quicker pickup due to the fact that the HEP alternator on them was smaller, 500kw I think. #229 and later got 800kw alternators, I believe. More lighting power for the cars, less for the traction. Doesn't seem like it would make a difference... but it did.
According to Fallen Flags, the F40PH #200 had the logo in the middle...

Amtrak #230 looks the same on Fallen Flags..

Afternoon all I have 2 HO Amtrak F40Ph's Phase II's I had noticed the name Amtrak was. Different one was in the center of the engine,Other was next to the cab what was the reason? For this what years were they different with thee name Amtrak positined for? Here are some photo link a I found online.
