Big Boy movie

A couple of years ago I read that a Big Boy was being restored to running condition to star in a movie called "Big Boy". Does anyone know what happened to this movie or is coming out later?

I have not heard of this. UP probably will not do this because of the cost involved and the fact that there are only 5 left. UP donated them to select cities in the US so they no longer have rights to them.

in fact I do believe one is at the LA county fair grounds at thier small RR museum in Pomona CA

I found this quote on UP's website. It says where they all are. I was wrong, 8 are remaining, not 5. Whoops!

The story was about the engine at the Age of Steam at Dallas. They actually moved the engine with a diesel for the publicity shots and planned to use it in a movie. The producer never got the money and no work was done on the engine. It was highly publicized at the time, but it would seem it was all hype. A Big Boy running again would be nice, but don't count on it.

I would expect to see the Cab Forward at Sacramento to run before a Big Boy is restored, and the chances of that engine running is about the same as all of us winning the lottery at the same time.

My dad told me about how he heard something about the Big Boy getting moved but he hasn't heard about it. So since we don't get to see the Big Boy in action lets go 3985.

Thanks to all who answered my question. I guess it was all for nothing and we will never see a working Big Boy in a movie. Although they could push it and use CG animation to add all the smoke and steam. That would still be cool.

As for UP doing it they are out they do not own any of the remaining monsters but
In Last of the Giants III I quote Steve Lee as saying this
"if someone restored it and GAVE it to us maybe we would run it maybe we wouldnt"
So for all of you die hard gotta see a big boy run again I say save your pennies restore it and then pray.
To be honest I cannot fathom the oil bill for the fire it takes to move it although the Oil Barrens would just sit and watch their accounts roll in the cash
If we could get them all indoors and painted nicely that would be good.

was your bowser difficult to assemble?
With Trix being the only game in town and it being the price I paid for cars I have driven I cannot justify the exspense for something that will not be big enough for me to sit in.

Not at the exspense of my childrens future

I refuse to pour millions of dollars into a hobby instead of dumping that money into my children the price they are asking is ridiculous. I am not a cheap person just frugle
I have others whose well being depends on me so I will shop for the best price in town.
Its a hobby not an obsession

Well lets try this

As long as were all willing to jump on the prices they are offering then the prices will never lower.
The manufacturers have all of us over a barrel and they know it. They will continue to pu***he prices up cause they know you have a credit card with 30 % apr waiting to snap up that engine. Not me forget that I will wait and if I get it I get it if I dont I dont. Eventually everyone dies and your widow will sell all of your train crap for a few bucks and I will swing in from the shadows and snap it up for barely a 1/4 of what you paid for it. I imagine the same thing will happen when I die its part of model rail roading.
I think a lot of purchases are just impulse buys anyway and the item ends up on ebay for a few bucks.
I am slowly building my layout and slowly buying stuff here and there I got time I can wait.
I would rather get it used and fix it myself no need in getting it new before everyone else.
I am happy with what I have sure I would like lots of stuff but I dont need it to get through the day.
I just relax and play with my trains.
