Kevin,  here bbq and grilling are the same.

Track fiddler
I agree Charlie that barbecuing and grilling are both the same.

Don't say that in Georgia!

I know that up North the two terms are used interchangeably. When I was visiting my daughter in Seattle, she took us to a "barbeque" at her friend's house. When we arrived, they said they were going to start the charcoal.

I said what... that should have been started 13 hours ago. They all looked puzzled.

Yes yes your right.  I guess I forgot that's why those places that slow cook their meat for 14 hours are always so busy.  Or one could just stop over at Ed's houseLaugh

I agree Charlie that barbecuing and grilling are both the same.

I've always had the notion that "grilling" was a faster, hotter variety of barbecue. As it turns out, Wikipedia agrees:

In American English usage, grilling refers to a fast process over high heat while barbecuing refers to a slow process using indirect heat or hot smoke, similar to some forms of roasting. In a typical U.S. home grill, food is cooked on a grate directly over hot charcoal, while in a U.S. barbecue the coals are dispersed to the sides or at a significant distance from the grate. In British usage, barbecuing refers to a fast cooking process done directly over high heat, while grilling refers to cooking under a source of direct, moderate-to-high heat—known in the United States as broiling. Its South American versions are the southern Brazilian churrasco and the Argentine asado.

Either way, I love it and love to grill, barbecue or smoke all the time

Glad you liked the pizza Brent.

We used the King Arthur flour recipe.  I think both you and Ed endorsed it last year, ...Judy and I have enjoyed it ever sinceDinner

I sure do envy the beautiful places you have to go for a walk up there.  It makes me miss the resort days up at the Kabetogama State Forest in Voyagers National Park.  I'd like to get out of the stinking city, go back up there and retire.  And I'm working on that plan.

I'm glad you had a wonderful time with your daughter this weekend and a belated happy birthday to herCake

My dad went through a phase when I was little and had knight stuff all over his walls.  Some of his pieces were a bit spooky for a little guy with the knight heads, swords and he even had horse heads with armor.  I guess because of that I kind of admire that medieval Knight stuff.

I found this one I really like on eBay but my walls are full with no where to put it.  Maybe in the front entry by the coatsLaugh  I could hang my Carhartt just so and put it right in the V of the neckLaugh

I agree Charlie that barbecuing and grilling are both the same.  I guess the only one difference is you paint the BBQ sauce on the meat towards the end sometimes and let it soak in for a while before you take it off the grillDinner

Now I'm hungry againLaugh

Good Evening,

Kevin,  here bbq and grilling are the same.

Didn't do the pots today as it is supposed to be warmer than forecast earlier. Will cover some and hope to get them through the week. Trying to delay winter.

I don't like halloween at all. We turn off the lights so no kids come. Few go down our street anyway.

Anything is ok by me for next month but I am wary of a military theme as there is a risk of politics,

Don't mind if I do TF! That pizza looks mighty tasty.

Can't remember the last time we ever had a trick or treater, it has been years. The distance between houses and the long driveways make it an extremely unprofitable neighbourhood to trick-or-treat in.Laugh

Daughter is on the Ferry and says the boat is full of people in costume, including a guy in a full suit of armour.Pirate They are having a good time apparently. Hope the guy in the armour doesn't fall overboard, he won't be swimming far wearing that.Laugh

Good evening

Thanks for the kind wishes and prayers for CC Mike, Charlie and everyone.  We should be hearing an update soon.  She is strong and full of life so I know she's going to pull through this.  She has to, I just love that little sweetie.

Last year we made spider deviled eggs and stuffed peppers for Halloween.

This year we made Spider pizza, pumpkin Krispies and more deviled eggs.

We already ate two but Dig In!

Happy HalloweenSmile, Wink & Grin

Good morning from perfectville. It is another beautiful sunny day.

Ed, A friend of mine was chief pilot for a large Vancouver-based helicopter company, so that afforded me rides on occasion. He use to set hydro towers with a huey. The power you feel riding in one of those is quite something. I have been in many different helicopters through the years but never one of those tiny two-seaters. A Bell jet Ranger is probably the smallest. I did use to chase my friends down the valleys around the mountains North of Vancouver up to Whistler and back pretending we were fighter aces. It was a slow-motion affair in Piper aircraft though.Laugh We had a lot of fun.

Walked for hours yesterday through the forest. Saw lots of Deer and even a big black bear which does not happen very often. I took a picture of him but got my fingers instead. He wandered off when the dog barked at him while wagging his tail. I need more practice using the camera on my phone.Laugh

This area has had all the ground cover removed by a movie company that was filming in there. They had huge power cables running into this area from a dirt road that is 300 metres away at least. There are some pretty big trees in this part.

I just love walking through here, and so do the dogs. No cars, sidewalks, roads,  people, or noise. The silence is deafening.

The house was full of kids last night for my daughter's Birthday. They are all adults now but lots of fond memories of them all of when they were tiny came flooding back. They still played games around the dining room table and watched movies crammed on the couches. We went to bed as they now drive themselves home in their expensive cars. No sleepovers or parents coming to pick them up.Laugh

Time to hop on the bike for an hour, weight is up three pounds as the wife has been going crazy in the kitchen. I will be back down in a few days. Another long walk is in order as well before I drive my daughter back to the ferry. She usually goes back Monday but has an extra all-day session in the medical lab at school on Monday.

All the best to all.

Garry, glad to hear you are home.  Hang in there and stay in touch as you are up to it.

Took our kids to a haunted ship Friday night.  It was fun.  They did a really good job.

Gòod Morning,

TF, I hope your niece is better soon. It is hard to see little ones suffer.

Garry, glad to hear you are home and with rest your energy will improve.

Nice day here yesterday. Today I have to clean the soil out of a lot of flower pots as it is supposed to get cold on Tuesday. The wet soil will crack them if it freezes hard. The pond can stay another week as it is supposed  to hit 50 by Thursday.

Kevin, nice to hear about your day.

I need more coffee. I make it at the wet bar we have in the basement where I live most of the time. It gets lonely down here now that Robbie is gyone.

I think they could both be very interesting, but I'm leaning towards the wartime theme. Brent and Ed have both expressed their support for going that route. Does anyone else want to chime in?

Wartime operations of railroads are interesting, I am especially fascinated by USA railroads during the ACW, and front line operations in the European Theater during WW1.

We would need a commitment from everyone to leave political discussion out, which has proven difficult whenever the discussion of historical conflicts have been brought up.

Hi everyone,

We have had two themes suggested for the November Diner. One is 'interesting line side structures', and the second is 'the wartime contributions that railroads made'.

I think they could both be very interesting, but I'm leaning towards the wartime theme. Brent and Ed have both expressed their support for going that route. Does anyone else want to chime in?

I'll move the Diner at midnight or thereabouts unless somebody else wants to do it..

Cheers!!

Dave

Happy Halloween everyone.

This is my 100% absolute favorite holiday, and I am going to miss it this year because I have to work. I don't know how many trick-or-treaters we would be expecting anyway.

I rode in one helicopter. It was a tiny two seater, and I was terrfied the entire time.

Why am I out of bed this early?

Good morning

Good to hear you're home Garry.  Rest up and try not to over do things.  I have the highest hope's and best wishes you get better and stronger with each passing dayYes

Saddened to hear your wife's anxiety hasn't gotten any better Charlie.  I hope the best for you both as well.

Thanks for all the prayers and best wishes for CC Ray, Brent, Bear, Ricky, and Ed.  I do believe positive energy and Good Karma always helps.

She has been given a medication to help break down the mucus in her lungs as she's been caughing almost continuously.  We are all hopefull it will take effect soon.  They all need some sleep over there.

On a better note, it was a beautiful day of 60° yesterday.  Not a cloud in the sky.  I picked up my youngest daughter Brittany in the Mustang and took her for a car ride to get some ice cream since she missed out last time.  We had fun.

Happy Holloween everyoneWink

All day long i have been thinking about what a wonderful day I had yesterday.

That dinner with new friends, family, and good conversation was a long-missed wonderful event. Everything was so perfect. It was mid-70s, clear skies, good food, no humidity, gentle breeze, and lots of stars. I did not know how badly I needed something like that.

I wish all of you could have been there to add to the fun.

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery for Garry and CeeCee and John's daughter and for anyone else I may have missed. I have eight grandkids and I can certainly feel the compassion for them when things aren't going well for them.

Will we ever get to see where in New Jersey this photo was taken, LION?

Someone mentioned making the November Diner's theme about the railroad's wartime contributions and operations. That sounds like a good subject to me.

I stumbled on some scenes from a film made to show the efforts of the French resistance in the waning years of WWII:

Quite fascinating stuff! I found a copy of the DVD so I could get the complete film. It is on my queue for the next model workshop session.

Howdy ... thanks again for thoughts and prayers .  It was October 19 when my heart stopped beating two times and my implanted defibrillator saved me . It was a very rough week in the hospital. I came home two nights ago , and I am totally wiped out . I am on oxygen continuously.

I don't know when I will get back to model trains or when I can contribute in the Diner regularly.

Trying to keep a sense of humor, I leave you with this one.  They poked so many needles in me in the hospital that I am considering dressing up as a porcupine for Halloween.

Good night

Evenin' (well almost evening around these parts).

I done went to Walgreen's this morning and done got injected again.  Yep!  Got me the Moderna Booster dose to lift my imunity a bit.... No problems at this point, not even a sore arm.  The rest of the evening will be more painful.....  Having dinner with with my sister.  She has a few major problems, most of which relate to her snotty, know it all attidude.  No one is ever allowed to have a differing opinion from hers.  And if they do agree with her she usually go to the "It's to late to agree with me, I changed my mind" philosophy!"  She does not ever eat beef!  Unless, of course it is something on my plate...  LOL

I'm sure I will survive the evening with only a few raises in Blood Pressure, but without any horrid scenes..... as long as I don't have any opinions that came from anything called "provable facts"...  I guess every family has one of those types. ConfusedWhistling  I love her dearly, but she is not usually fun to be around.
