Old Issues of Model Railroader Magazine
Posted by Pruitt on Thursday, September 23, 2021 11:48 PM

I have a pretty extensive collection of back issues of Model Railroader, going all the way back to 1937. But...

I'm missing quite a few issues all the way up through 1970, and only a few after that.

I always check for ones I'm missing at train shows, but I haven't seen many lately. There are quite a few on ebay, but the prices are ridiculous.

Anybody have back issues they want to get rid of (for a reasonable price)? The older the better.

Mark,

I suppose it's not cool to advertise a business here, but my LHS has MR back issues in magazine holders lining the front entryway and all over the floor around the place. I don't know what he charges for them or whether you'd consider it a good deal, but he sells a lot of used things for much less than I find them anywhere else. (Not always -- I bought a Tortoise from him for $20 [worth it] and then bargained for 3 for $25 at a swap meet the next week, but generally I find he is not what I'd call high-priced.)

I live in Seattle and I travel to Burien to visit his -- ahem -- 'ellectric train shop'. The store is advertised in MR in the back under Washington. You could call him and ask him if he has certain ones. Don't know if he'd root through them, and I don't know if he'd ship them to you or for how much, but if you find that he has a few that you need, I'd be happy to go get them for you and send them to you. I've received enough help on this forum that I would be eager for an opportunity to put something back into it.

You could also let me know what the top five numbers are on your wanted list. I don't go often, maybe once a month, but I could look through the boxes.

Returning to model railroading after 40 years and taking unconscionable liberties with the SP&S, Northern Pacific and Great Northern roads in the '40s and '50s.

FYI, buying and selling items (even our own back issues) is prohibited by the posted rules of the Forums. Anyone wishing to contact the OP should do so via PM. This thread will be locked.
