SROC99If we made them in any sort of metal or other durable material, we couldn't have the color options and they'd be far too expensive to be practical and have fun with.
Hello Sam,
Thanks for taking the time to comment on my post.
I figured since Kadee was clever enough to design and make the best coupler on the market there would have to be a good reason why their coupler keychains couldn't be made out of a material to allow them to be bottle openers.
But I had to ask anyway...
cheers!

I'll take one, it'll go into my miscellanious box consisting of stuff I've collected over the years.
Yes, I'm watching with a funny grin. We put these key rings on the market several years ago. They are actually a version of our #900 G scale coupler with a logo in the centering spring slot. The logo area is an insert in the mold that we can change as we did for the anniversary version in gold, copper, and pewter. We've offer them in many different colors though the years and there are a few people that collect them.
They are not designed or intended to be use as a bottle opener, however, in a desperate moment they will work at least twice...as tested ☺ If we made them in any sort of metal or other durable material, we couldn't have the color options and they'd be far too expensive to be practical and have fun with.

AblebakercharlieDid they miss a great opportunity by not making it out of a more durable material?
I have one (not the golden one, but an oxide red one I bought about a year ago), and it IS NOT a bottle opener. I think it is just a G Scale coupler.
Now I want a Kadee beer opener.

Living the dream.
They used to give them out at shows (remember them?). They're pretty cool, but they are plastic. I wouldn't use mine to open a bottle. It might work once or twice before it broke.

Received recently an email from Kadee listing their September offers and one item was their 75th Anniversary keychain which is in the shape of a coupler. Well done Kadee - happy anniversary!
It certainly looks like it would make a great bottle opener but it says it is made out of plastic. Did they miss a great opportunity by not making it out of a more durable material?
Thought you all might like a thread that nothing to do with either DC or DCC.
