If I'm not mistake, the Standard Car Company was part of New England Rail Services...there was a thread about it here fairly recently.
Both made useful products and I lament their demise. If I'm not mistaken, they're also the group which released some pre-production samples of extemely well-done Fowler boxcars - a nearby hobbyshop, now long-gone, had samples to view. The cars were designed to represent various versions of the prototypes, with interchangeable exterior bracing, along with several styles of doors, ends and roofs. They apparently sent blueprints for construction of the moulds, either to somewhere in the western U.S. or perhaps to China or Japan. The moulds were duly created, but were lost in a fairly massive derailment somewhere out west. Some years later, they were found, in good condition, but I never heard anything more about them. That may have been the cause of their demise, as I'm sure it must have been an expensive loss. I once suggested to Don Tichy, that perhaps buying some of the NERS moulds (mostly for making parts to modify Rivarossi passenger cars) might be a good acquisition, but appently it wasn't in his interest. A very limited amount of those parts are, surprisingly, still available through Walthers.

Does anyone know if these folks are still in existance? They made detail parts similar to that New England company that went out of business.
Thank you!
