Super Glue/Krazy Glue Removal?
Posted by danmerkel on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 12:07 PM

Iw there any way to get super glue out of clothing? I was working on a project and an errant drop got away from me. So now I have a spot of super glue on my slacks. Is there any way to remove it?

Thanks!

A specific solvent for 'cured' cyanoacrylate is acetone.  Provided that your clothing is itself 'fast' against damage or color change from that solvent, applying acetone and then mechanically agitating or scraping as necessary should remove the CA from both the surface and the weave; it should not 're-set' and bond again when the solvent evaporates.

Acetone may be a greater health hazard than 'traditionally' thought, so use it sparingly and with very good ventilation, keep from touching it directly with your skin, and carefully launder (dry-clean if necessary) the clothing afterwards.  Any additives to the CA, like 'gap-filling' silica or little rubber particles, should wash out during that final step.

I do not know if modern dry-cleaning solvents are specific for CA one way or the other.

Acetone works but every time old Clumsy Mel tries to save a shirt the Acetone leaves a spot that’s as bad as the AC.

Now you have "new" work pants. If the stain isn't noticeable you can still wear them. No reason to clean them if it's going to look worse.

Yep!. You'll look like a workin man for a change.Laugh You should see the clothes I go out in, my wife has given up on me.

Yesterday I was fixing the circuit board on my recumbent bike and did not have enough hands so I took the lid off the insta glue with my teeth and put it back on the same way. My wife enjoyed the silence that resulted from my lips being glued together.Laugh

I tremble to think of what part of circuit-board repair on a recumbent bike could possibly involve rapid-setting adhesives, especially in quantities requiring a lidded container for access... Laugh
