Is the Golden Flame Fuel Company a kit or scratchbuilt? I would like to buid a grain elevator (or coal company, or whatever) just like that. I have a spot on my layout waiting for it, just have not gotten around to getting started on it yet.
Thanks
Never mind, I found it.
Oops, Out of stock and discontinued. Looks like I will have to scratchbuild it after all. It reminds me of one that Paul Dolkos hd on his Duquesne layout years ago. Always liked that railroad.
Doug the TrainmanStill very new here. My wife's name is Ruth, so it is appropriate I have a Baby Ruth car on the Granite Line.
Hi Doug,
I will be opening the new WEEKEND PHOTO FUN tonight at Midnight central time for the weekend of April 2-4.
Please stop in and feel free to share pictures in the new thread once it is up and running.
Your contributions will always be welcome.
Your pictures look great.

Living the dream.
Hello
Still very new here. My wife's name is Ruth, so it is appropriate I have a Baby Ruth car on the Granite Line.
Boxcab #15 is pulling a boxcar to the Dunfudgeon Furniture Company loading dock. I put an aftermarket casting on top of a four wheel locomotive, probably the old Athearn Little Hustler. It was a long time ago, I don't really remember. Painted and lettered it for the Granite Line.
Did somebody mention Emma the Stegosaurus? She is alive and well on the Granite Line, helping out with light switching duties.
A recent project, a Little River 2-4-4-2 articulated Powerhouse locomotive that I bought on line. Lettered for the Granite Line.
Current project, another locomotive I found on line, a brass import Sierra 2-6-6-2, probably made in the 1970s. Still working on it, it has not yet been lettered for the Granite Line. Astute observers will notice the leading and trailing trucks have not been attached yet.

Renegade1c- Wow those signs are awesome. How do you make circuit bords?
I drew the sign in Coreldraw and exported it as a dxf file (universal CAD file format). From the DXF file I can create the circuit board layout and the acrylic letters on the laser cutter.
I use a program called Eagle (free to use but free edition limits board size). I imported the DXF file to create the board outline. I added components from the built in libraries.
It has a bit of a learning curve to it. Once the design is complete it gets exported to a set of files called gerbers. The gerber files get sent to a place called a board house (the one I use is in China) were they are manufactured. It takes about 8-10 days for fabrication and shipping.
After I get them back I have to install all the components (process is called stuffing the board). In this case the boards are fairly simple. It is 3-4 LED's in series with a resistor. This combnation

Thanks.
Most of the colors I am using on these are from Tru-color. They have a line that is close to most automotive colors. I have about 6-7 of the mid 70's GM colors to use right now as I am mostly doing GM cars from that era. I have taken some liscense with some of the colors that might be "close" to the originals on some other cars I have done.
Lakeshore SubYes the bottom of the box has a piece of hardboard/masonite on it. Nice part of that is when it gets all gunked up, I just sand the bottom and go right back to cleaning track.
I have three masonite track cleaning cars made from Athearn 50 foot gondolas. They work well, but I wish I would have used 40 foot cars due to some 22 inch radius curves.
I am glad yours works well. I love mine.
cats think well of meKevin, seriously digging the TOFC models.
Thank you. I kind of stretch plausibility by having so many TOFC cars in my fleet that represents 1954, but I can't help myself. I love TOFC cars.

Ringo58Hope to see everyone again next weekend!
Me too, I hope everyone has a good week.
See you next time!
HO-Velo- Fantastic scene!
WRGMILW- This one is a Athearn Genesis. I think it runs amazing. I got it used and the wheels were so dirty it barely moved. A quick cleaning with some alcohol and it ran like new. Still need to lube the gears as theres a bit of noise but thats with any model. I also Have a walthers Mainline DCC/Sound and its a good bang for the buck.
Ed- Thats a good idea with the sticky dots on the trailers, I'm going to attempt something similar with lumber loads
Scott- Nice work on the homeade track cleaning car. Let the washers get rusty and call it a scrap load
Pike-62- I love the blazers. Especially the blue one on the bottom.
Hope to see everyone again next weekend!
mbinsewi WRGMILW I bought both at Hiwatha hobbies . That's also my LHS, I'm about 30 miles away. Mike.

Great that everyone shared so much this weekend.

Oh thank goodness!
From a functional standpoint, I think it would work either way.
You scared me!
I've had a busy weekend, so I didn't get a chance to post. I loved seeing everyone's work. Great job, everyone.

SeeYou190Ed: Uh-oh, did I install all my TOFC hitches backward?
I was at odds before mounting the hitches in the orientation that I did (they're only "tacked" in place). The "fifth wheel" of the kit has the opening facing the "front" so I mounted them the way I showed in my photos.

We have made it to page two! Thank you for everyone that has been contributing this week.
Ringo: The patched out WC green machine looks good.
Peter: Thank you for sharing another one of your great photographs. Amazing as always.
MRGMILW: There has been a lot of talk about Hiawatha Hobbies on the forum lately. I visted the store in 2018 and found all kinds of goodies. Congtratulations on getting those fine big EMD locomotives.
Scott: Does your track cleaning gondola car use the classic "John Allen" masonite cleaning pad. Nice work on the project.
Bear: Thank you for checking in. Looking forward to more of your contributions in the weeks to come.
Ed: Uh-oh, did I install all my TOFC hitches backward?
gmpullmanWill we be honored with a Bear Toon?
"One difference between pessimists and optimists is that while pessimists are more often right, optimists have far more fun."
Lots of great stuff again this week. Thought I would share a recent project. A couple of month ago MR ran an article about a track cleaning car made out of a gondola, so I thought that I would give it a try.
I had 2 old 40ft gondolas of Tyco and LifeLike heritage so I opened both of them up to remove the steel weight. After drilling some holes in the LifeLike body, the whole thing fell apart so I moved on to the Tyco with the awful CNW paint and decals that I did about 25 years ago. Here is what I came up with.
Built a styrene box that drops in a hole in the middle of the car. On the bottom of the box is a piece of 1/8" hardboard that is epoxied to the box. A couple of styrene strips hold the box in the car. Added the washers for the weight.
Will put more permanent weights into the car. Gave it a run behind an Atlas RS-1 and it works great. Just need to put a fake load on the car.
Thought I would add one more picture of a passenger train stopping at the small Peebles station.

Here's a little Sunday Morning update on some TOFC cars I've been "enhancing".
Walthers cranked these out maybe ten years ago. They used a flimsy king-pin jack that was close to what the early cars actually used but they were quite fragile.
NKP_TOFC by Edmund, on Flickr
I had to ream out the center hole as all of the trailers I wanted to use had larger pins.
NKP_TOFC-2 by Edmund, on Flickr
They may be a little more modern but who's to say older cars weren't upgraded with these Pullman Standard fifth wheel hitch jacks made by Details West #1007?

I use little sticky-dots to hold the trailers in place. A slight tug and they can be freed.
PRR_Truck-train by Edmund, on Flickr
I have some etched brass tie-down chains and binders. That will be for another weekend
I also added some different plackards and mud flaps to the trailers.

Great Pictures everyone !
I just bought these two engines within the last two weeks .
I bought both at Hiwatha hobbies . Both ran well ! The SP engine is a Scale RAILS Operator with sounds . The Soo line is a Athearn RTR with Econami sound .
Kevin, Thanks for the WPF start-up, your Timken car conjured up memories of packing and adjusting wheel bearings.
tbdanny, Your wonderful work always gets me to dreaming about 1:48 modeling.
Thanks to all the contributors and viewers, have a good weekend, regards, Peter

NorthBrit Thanks for starting WPF Kevin. A lovely Boxcar. Ed. Baby Ruth looks great. My picture is of a canal boat. For around a year I have been searching for a suitable modern canal boat for Clarence Dock when I run diesels. Many I saw were not what I was after. Then --- 'Kingfisher' a 40ft canal boat. I now need a crew for her. David

Rick- Nice work on the cars as always! I like the detail of the B end on that hopper.
Micktropolis- Love the UP steam Fleet. Theres a used Genesis Big Boy with sound at the hobby shop accross the street from me....I have to tell myself I dont have big boy money eveytime I go in there. I believe its 4001
Mike- FlexiFlo hopper is coming along great! Cant wait to see it with some weathering and decals! Added bonus for that cool vintage Timken ad. I love the old ads.
Ed- I like that boxcar. I need to add more PS-1s to my fleet. Mybe even 50,000!
Danny- Those are 2 fantastic looking locomotives! I love the scenery in the background. Really brings the models to life
Allan- Nice pictures of special equipment. Somewhere I have a UP Desert Victory SD40 that I recieved on my birthday when I was 8. Thats laying around somewhere at my parents house.
Alvie- Great looking structures!
Small update: I picked up this BN GP15-1 for a steal of a deal and had no real plans for it. Decided to patch it out for Wisconsin Central ( even though they didn't have gp15s). I used their Patched BN SD45s as a template. Just need to add a Tsunami 2 to it in the coming weeks.
Thanks for all the kind words on the SOO F3 but I can't take credit, The very talented Jon Hill from Milepost70Customs did the sound install and weathering for me.
Lets keep the good pictures rolling in!
Ed: I also hope that Kadee might one day make a good and proper model of the commemorative Pullman Standard boxcar.
Renegade: Wow! Laser cutting the individual lighted letters from acrylic is like next-level awesome. The sign is looking fantastic.
Danny: Your little 0-6-0 and critter are beautiful. You have quite a talent for putting together fantasy locomotives.
Allan: That is the silver VIRGINIAN hopper I want to eventually add to my childhood train set... someday.
Alvie: The colours you chose for the crossing shanties looks perfectly appropriate to me. The fuel building looks very good as well.
Loving all of the photos guys! WPF is always a treat.
Here are a pair of Intermountain Laserworks PRR Watch Boxes I just completed. The kits are stock with the exception of .015" clear styrene for windows. I used Model Master Aged Concrete for the walls and Tamiya brown for the trim. I'm sure the Tamiya brown is not exact, but I don't care. I also worked on painting up a Walthers Golden Flame Fuel Company kit and here are the coal silos.
I'm waiting on a part from Walthers and I'll then add the two remaining coal chutes. I painted the silos Model Master Concrete and the dark gray roof with a mix of Model Master engine black and reefer white. The wood parts are Model Master PRR buff (close to the color the kit is molded in) and Tamiya brown for the windows and doors. I put the watch box next to the silos to show scale.
Kevin - Thanks for starting off WPF. The Timken box car looks good. Hard to find I'll bet.
Ed - Loved your Baby Ruth box car. Another one that is likely hard to find.
David - Cool Canal boat. We don't see many of them on this side of the pond.
Ringo - The SOO loco looks good. Good job.
Rich - Interesting cars this week. I really liked the Southern GPs.
Michtropolis - Quite the UP loco family you have there.
mbinsewi - The Flexi-Flow hoppers look good. As does the motive power in the Timken photo.
Ed - The PS1 boxcar has to be a hard one to find.
Renegade 1c - Thats a heck of a project.!
tbdanny - Great jop on the little locos.
I have a few things that bring back some great memories from the 70's when my son was small:
The loco, 1776 was part of a TYCO train set I bought for my son. It no longer runs, but I dig it out and push it around the layout on the 4th of July.
I think this little VIRGINIAN hopper was part of the set, or one like it as I buy them whenever I find them at train shows. I think there are 10 or 12 of them now. Somewhere I have a UP gondola that was part of the same set. Just no picture handy.
Keep the photos, memories and ideas coming guys. Thanks to you WPF is always the best thread of the week.
Remember its your railroad
Allan
