My layout needs several EMD E7 in GN, unfortunately. I can't find any guides on how to build them, where can I find a good guide on building them?
What kind of information are you needing?
Paint scheme, specific details, evolution through the years, or something different?

Living the dream.
Duane Buck had a modeling article in the July 1998 issue of Mainline Modeler.
I built up three HO E7As and three E7Bs from Athearn Blue Box SD40-2 frames and used Cary metal bodies. Terrific pulling power! I swapped out the Athearn motors with Mabuchi FK280SA 14200 motors, each locomotive weighs in at a bit over 2 pounds and have over 9 ounces of drawbar using 580ma at wheel slip. I use 1” Neodymium magnet speakers for tremendous sound. Good LuckMel My Model Railroad http://melvineperry.blogspot.com/ Bakersfield, California I'm beginning to realize that aging is not for wimps.

I have one of the Walthers/Proto GN E-7s, it's excellent right out of the box.
E-7s were sorta/kinda a failure on GN, in that they bought them in the mid-forties to pull the Empire Builder but soon found they didn't do very well in the mountains, so bought F-units for the Builder and their transcontinental trains and farmed the E-units out to smaller 'flat land' trains like the Badger/Gopher, Red River Limited etc.

Specific Details
You could do a search for GN's roster of E7's. There are quite a few on here:
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoList.aspx?id=GN
Page 2 has some.
There are other sources, like Fallen Flags, and Don's Depot, and you can also check out the GN Historical Society's site.
If you can find pictures, you can look for engine specific details.
I haven't heard of a site or guide for building and detailing GN E7's, specifically. There might be some modeling info on the GNRHS's site.
I just looked at the Fallen Flags site, they have a list with pictures of just about all of the E7's that GN owned.
