wjstix Well I don't have that engine, but I do have two Sound-Value equipped GP-30s and I like them a lot. Yes, there aren't that many options (like only three horns) but the sounds that are available are good. Here's a link to the page at Bachmann showing the various CVs for the GP-38: https://soundtraxx.com/content/Reference/Factory-Installed/Bachmann/SoundValue/bachmann_ho_gp382_sv.pdf

Thanks for your input! The CV chart helped me make my decision. Hopefully the shell transfers fine, which I don't see it being an issue!
I have an opportunity to pick up a sound value gp38-2 for a good price. What can you change CV wise on these? I watched a review on one and it looked very basic as far as controls.
The main issue I have, is watching the reviews, it seemed to "jump" when the speeds were changed. Can you change the momentum/speed steps on one of these?
Also if you have one: How do you like it?
And is the shell the same as a non DCC GP38? I'm looking to use the chassis from the sound value loco for my Wisconsin Central shell
