2021 is finally here and the rampaging dumpster fire of 2020 is finally over. Maybe someday I will have grandchildren I can tell about it.
This treasure arrived this week. I have been scoping around for this since it was introduced over ten years ago. It is the Walthers 12-car work train set.
They sold this in two six-car sets, and I had never seen them in undecorated.
Miracle of all miracles, both set 1 and set 2 showed up on ebay from the same seller! Unfortunately he listed them in two seperate auctions that ended 90 seconds apart from one another.
I had to fight off a competitive bidder on the first one, then be ready to enter a safety bid on the second right before it ended.
I was victorious, and they are both mine!
They were shipped very well packaged, and after a delay in Cleveland they made it to safety in the sunny South.
There was even good padding underneath the boxes.
The contents were still sealed in the factory shrink wrap. This is an incredible find.
Of course... I opened them up! Here are all twelve cars on display.
The set consists of:
1 tank car
2 different box cars
1 flat car
1 gondola car
1 kitchen car
2 bunk cars
1 engineering car
1 50 ton construction crane
1 crane boom car
1 combination box car bay window caboose
I am planning to paint the entire train light olive green, and I hope to pull the train with a new HO scale version of my famous boxcab locomotive STRATTON AND GILLETTE #4!
So I have now added yet another project for the vaults. This will be great! I hope to get to it before I am 64.

Finished a couple of cars during the week.
Kadee Cushion Underframe car kit, painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red #3 and lettered with Mask Island Decals. Car was built in 1964 and was in general service for the Rock Island and successors.
Proto 2000 52'6" Gon kit which appoximates the B&LE gons in the 15000 car series class. Painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red #3 and lettered with Champ Decals. General Service Gondola for the B&LE for steel products of the USS Steel plants in the Pittsburgh area.
Athearn GP40-2's with a general freight, although the first cars are all from the Campbell Soup factory out of Napoleon, OH. Picture take at the Wharf Area of the Strongsville, OH Club Layout.

Like Kevin I was lucky to find these on E-bay. They are from a collection from a very well know modeler - Tony Burgess. As many may remember Tony had several articles in MR over the years. He was also a member of a forum I'm a member of. After Tony passed his wife is selling his collection of model railroad items. I've always wanted these cars since I saw them advertised many years ago. But being short of money back then that never happened. Also I remember seeing either an article or picture of the PURR in MR many years ago.

This year, my "holiday" kitbash project was an HOn30 Porter for my ore operation. It is based on the Bachmann Skarloey loco, that I modified using a 3D print cab from Shapeways and other spare parts I had in my stash. It's finished for now, but I will probably add more parts when opportunities arise (my parts box was short of a few items). It runs VERY smoothly... See before and after pictures below.

I built those cars for the club I used to belong to. They really can make up a nice M-of-W train. They must have sold a million of those kits!

It looks like the first episode of Weekend Photo Fun in 2021 is off to a good start.
Jimmy: It must be exciting to be explorting the freedom that comes from having your own 3D printer. The ability to make any part you desire must be a real thrill.
Rick: I had no idea my new Maintenance Of Way train cars dated all the way back to the days of Tru-Scale models. I am a fan of that ROCK ISLAND boxcar. It looks great. Your fleet must be an amazing collection by now.
Bernd: Nice find on the GORRE AND DAPHETID freight cars. Those are some of the better looking G&D models I have seen. I also have the PURR freight car in my collection. I did not add the ice hatches to mine, but I do not recall the reason why.
Simon: That narrow gauge locomotive conversion is great. It is just oozing with unique character.
Peter: The F unityou shared is beautiful. I looked at the weathering and details for a while, but I must admit I did not notice the baby hanging off of the dorrway until I read Ed's comment and went back and looked again.
Bear: The Fun-Ho dozer is a neat old thing to have. It is nice it made its way back home and found a spot on the flat car to spend some time.
Ed: I would not be sruprised if the sales of the MOW trains went into massive numbers, but like the Life-Like Proto-2000 Mather boxcars, the undecorated version were like unicorns! I was so happy to finally have them. The static grass tool you are working on is interesting. I am looking forward to updates.
Mel: It will be a long time before I get going on the MOW train project. I had to make the purchase when I saw it. It might not be available in new condition like that ever again. Your passengers will probably be very happy in that new Athearn passenger car. Great work as always.

Last week was slow in the model RR department as far as work on the layout. I did recieve a Fox Valley Models Milwaukee Road transfer caboose from my Girlfriend and a GATX Atlas MP15DC and 2 Exactrail WC boxcars from my parents.
This week I bought myself a late christmas present- A Athearn RTR MILW SD40-2. I missed out on this loco last year when it was on clearance and then it came back on clearance!
I was cleaning our room and noticed I had an empty floating shelf and I had an Idea. After seeing Mels diorama and wanting something to display 2 locos at a time, I took it down and turned it into a diorama! Sill need to detail it more and clean it up but its not a bad start for 2 days work!
Please keep the pictures flowing!
David: It certainly does look like your street sweeper is going to be quite the busy fellow. Great scene.
Ringo: The Fox Valley transfer caboose is an absolutely beautiful model. I have a couple of their B&O boxcars lettered for the MIDLAND ROAD, and they met all my standards straight out of the box, except for trucks and couplers. They went straight into my fleet with no real rework at all. Also, for two days of work, your diorama is looking very good.
The shorty flat car was loaded last night and is being ship (by rail) and is making it's way though Bridgeton.
PC101: Your load on the short flat car looks great. I have always liked the look of shorty flat cars, but I do not have any in my fleet yet.

Fox Valley Models are really nice. I have a few box cars, lettered for the WC that I really like.
I almost bought a FV MILW terminal caboose, but since there is one right down the street from me, I decided to scratch build one.
I think I did this in 2018? I did a whole thread on it. Most in here have seen this before.
