Two years ago I drove through southern New Mexico and Arizona, pretty much the same area we will be traveling tomorrow.

It is beautiful country.  You can see forever in the dry air.  There also aren't many trees blocking the view.

Where is TF????

Starts in two hours. Losers buy the high-end Scotch.

Or the winner determines where the diner heads.

I stand by my observation, these are not normal users. Adult themed users have NO BUSINESS on this site,

I reported one last February and Otte said with the state of the forum software, he couldn't even find them to give them the boot.  You have to go to the trouble of clicking on their picture and messaging them.  That's not easy to do if you use Firefox.
If you are dumb enough to start a conversation with someone masquerading behind a pretty picture, selling bitcoins, writing lessons or Russian brides, you get what you deserve.

On the train front I miscounted my nuts and bolt before I went to the hardware store.  Way short on nut and bolts.  Two installed legs don't get me anywhere.

It was 45 today, but felt colder.  At least it was sunny.

I was in Hawaii in the 80's for vacation.  I was surprised how many Japanese were visiting the USS Arizona.  We found a sushi restaurant in Honolulu and we were new to sushi.  The waitresses didn't speak English and the menu was pictures of fish.  We ordered by the picture.  All good buy I had no idea what I ate.

That's a long time to wait with pain and infection.  Hope you feel better quickly.

I agree with John, you should get to a clinic and get it seen to and antibiotics going. Old guys like us need to stay on top of these things.

My sister got taken to the hospital in an ambulance Sunday night. Had a CT that showed a kidney stone. They gave her some major pain meds and another CT a couple of hours later that showed it had moved on to the bladder and sent her on her way with the tea strainer to catch the culprit. A three hour stay in the hospital and she felt much better. Don't sit and suffer Ken.

A kidney infection is an emergency.  Don't VA's have ERs these days?

Acute prostatits can be life threatening too.  Plus you have diabetes.  Don't wait till the 19th.

Hello, everyone!

I had about five paragraphs of text written and then the cat walked across the keyboard and sent it off to who knows where Confused Darned cats!

Heartland Division CB&Q
The City of New Orleans traved through a small section of Kentucky along the Mississippi River. It had a station stop in Fulton, KY.

I neglected to upload the southern portion of the map the other day.

Sorry for the oversight Smile

I had my first kidney stone bout this summer. It does feel like back pain of course. I actually passed them a day or two after I saw the doctor. Couldn't catch them in time put I heard a "tink-tink" as they hit the porcelain!

Get that checked out soon, Ken. Even if you have to go to an urgentcare center. Sometimes they can then refer you to a hospital and you can get in quicker.

Douglas, I was watching that parlor car, too. I have been searching for HO parlor car seats to no avail. I need 162 of them for my Congressional Limited cars. I have one set of 24 from the old RedCap models but those are NA these days.

Can you suggest a resin printing 101 site? How about the 3D modeling software? My nephew used to be big in that stuff back in the late 1990s. Autocad and Solidworks. Very Hi-Tech and $$$ back then. Now we can do it on the dining room table!

We were ON TIME at Alpine Texas a few minutes ago. Just a ten minute stop.

Got the bugs wiped off the windshield, though!

Good Evening All,

Belated Happy Birthday Kevin. Sorry to hear about the various aches and pains among us. Ken, I would check out either a clinic or see if the new see a regular doctor stuff applies to your case.

Ed I use Shapeways for oddball stuff. You should check it out. I think worst case they can get someone to scan the seats you have and replicate them. We have guys that do that for car parts but it gets pricey quickly on car parts.

Still house hunting though it is getting a bit fustrating. We looked at one that was listed as needing some work and what it needed was a good tearing down. Holes through the clapboard and a lifetimes worth of junk in the gutters had wrecked the ceilings never mind the roof. We're good at wood work and such but this was way beyond what we would tackle. We are not in a hurry so the hope is the market will cool off a bit as some of the better bets seem to sell before we can even go see them. Sometimes I think we are doing this backwards and should actually sell our present house first. Just not ready to live in a hotel any more than I already do fo r work.  Rant over.

Ed, this is a fun trip. When we get out to Arizona we could stop at Williams and take the Grand Canyon Railroad for a side trip. Well worth it though it does get cold this time of year. Trying to make a good percentage of on time trips get tough when you are subject to sitting whenever a freight is behind schedule occupies the space on the rails you need. That said, things are much better than they were for a long time when the political types tried to starve passenger rail service to death. The lack of capital led to all sorts of problems as retold previously.

Catch y'all tomorrow with luck I'll be able to pop in after we look at the next two houses.    Ciao, J.R.

Actually Ed i cant, i dont use any 'sites' myself. I do hear the names "Shapeways", "Thing-a-Verse" tossed around quite a bit. I imagine they do good work to be in the public eye. Somehow though i dont think thats what your looking for.

I was wondering if starting a 3d 101 thread would be ok. But as you folks can plainly see im not much of a writer. Yet again, i dont think thats gonna get you 162 seats. I see no reason why your Congressional Limited cars should be seatless.

Ed, why dont you post a pic of these seats. Id like to see them please. Itll give me something to ponder while i take a seat in the parlor, fire up a stogie, and crack open the latest Classic Trains as we clickety-clack along under the soft glow of pullman lamps.

In the meantime, I use "Sketch-Up" as my CAD sofware, "Simplify-3d" as my slicing software (turns your drawing into a coordinates file the printer can understand). These have suited my needs for the last 5 yrs, i feel ok recommending them.

Todays $$$ amounts are somewhat relative to the 90s. Chinese made printers can do anything the American counterparts can, but at a fraction of cost. Its the software that gets you $$$-wise. While the real version of CAD (Autodesk's AutoCAD) will cost you in the thousands, were down to the hundreds now with 3rd party CADs.

A person who had just a PC could get into the game for $500 as described above. As with anything else, add more $$$ - the more grandiose your set up is. At that point all you need is time, patience, and a good repetoire of salty words.

Show me a pic Ed, have Mrs Pullman look at swatchs, surely theres some seats for your cars out there somewhere.

Good evening all.

My wife and I just finished season 2 of Better Call Saul. Talk about a slow moving plot development. In the season finale they set up 2 story lines, and then just backed out of both of them... ho-hum.

Sleep

No where near as good as Breaking Bad.

My chin has been itching all day. Weird.

Not feeling very awake. I think I might hit the rack shortly after midnight tonight.

Good morning all.   Snow and more snow.  YUK!!

We have reached California.   A State Dawn wants to visit, but with her disabilities  and the way the world is I think it will not happen.  But then--!   Maybe.

It is near Coffee  coffee time.

I will run some trains again this afternoon.

Reading the posts above a few are coming down with aches and pains etc.  See the doctor if neccessary.  Take care in whatever you do.

Good Morning All,

A regular for me please Zoe. Off at 8 to look at two more houses. I'm happy to do so because the CFO is specifiying a basement in the mix so there is room for trains.

Shop stuff is picking up slightly as the mood improves locally. The beginning of the season is rushing at us and in a month we'll be on our way to Florida again to start.

Just for Kevin, a view of my beautiful world. I still like having all 4 seasons.

Taking apart the layout, I realized the backshop/roundhouse had been permanently mounted and were also right on the join between the 6 x 8 carrying the yard and the industrial area (where at least all the buildings are free standing and loose on the foam underlay). Fortunately I secured the two buildings with white glue and some patient application of water and gentle prying with a putty knife got them loose enough to lift and seperate.

  disassembly2 by J.R. Mitchell, on Flickr" alt="roundhouse" />

  disassembly1 by J.R. Mitchell, on Flickr" alt="aftermath" />

So progress of the disassembly. I will wrap this part and the adjoining part in shrink wrap when we go to move it so I don't derange all the wires underneath and trap any loose ballast or ground cover that might move. I'm not worried about the turnout levers and control cables as they are all in the foam and out of harms way.

Time to do some desk w**k before we drive off to the wilds of New Milford to hunt the deadly and elusive house.     Ciao, J.R.

Good morning, everyone.  Diner black coffee for me, please.

It's great to be back in California.  In spite of all its well-known problems, this state is a great collection of natural wonders, from Death Valley to the Redwoods.

It's snowing again here, but we don't expect much.  It's just at freezing temperature, so some of it is melting as it hits.  We still have 5-6 inches on the ground from last week.

I'm a little jealous.  Last night my neighbor carried a 65" TV into his house.  My TV is only 55".  I may go out to look at one that's 85".  That'll teach him!

I'm going to start trying to learn Arduino.  I've opened the starter kit and looked at it, and I have no idea what I looked at.  I will start watching some Youtube videos today on how to get started.  My first project I want to complete is to have some crossing signals that are automatic when the train approaches.  I'll let you know in three years when I finish.

I hope everyone stays healthy.

The local Wal-Mart has all of the extra huge TV's on display as soon as you walk in the door.  They WANT your $600. !  Laugh

3 mornings now of frozen fog in WI.  The trees sure are a purty sight! Cowboy

I got a new scanner for Christmas, along with a new antenna, a Smiley Super Stick II, tuned for 160mhz.  Works great.

I have it in my office window, which is on the 2nd floor.  I'm 6 miles from the CN's closest defect detector, on their main line between Chicago and their shops in Fond du Lac, WI., and I get the auto-signal nice and clear.

So now we are in California, I've never been to the left coast.  This is as close as I will ever get!

Have a great day!

My goodness, you sound like my father-in-law.  Years ago my crummy old college TV was on it's last legs so I replaced it with a 30" HD (Tube TV to boot!).  My FIL ran out and bought a 32" flatscreen.  Then a couple years later, my 30" died and the repairman said it would cost more to fix it than replace it.  So I bought a 40" flatscreen.  My FIL  immediately went out and bought a 42".  Then, almost 10 years later, I get to talking about getting a new, slightly bigger TV.  He pre-emptively runs out and buys a 55".  Well, I bought a 65". Mischief He is beside himself.  Laugh  He doesn't have room for one bigger than that, but I expect any day to find a 65" at his house.  He wants his kids to have any and everything they could ever want, but he needs to have one better.  I have dozens of examples.

My TV is "only" 55 inches. It is an early Smart TV, and it does not have abillity for Disney Plus that we can figure out. It might get replaced soon with a 70 inch TV since they are so inexpensive now.

We received our $1,200.00 check yesterday. It is going into the bank for now. We will probably send it to our youngest daughter.

The retailers here are making a good push for the money.

For Christmas, one of my presents was an SQ23 HD camera. It is a one-inch square cube that fits on an N Scale flatcar.

I wanted one of these just for the fun of seeing the layout at a ground level view.

So I ran the camera around a few times.  It was fun, but ...

The camera showed up a lot of problems, especially on the layout's back side -- uneven ballast, junk and pieces of trees, places where I missed with paint, etc.

I think I could see them anyway, but from my eyesight as a giant on the layout, I could overlook the issues.  Not from the camera's ground level view.  The issues stood out and dominated what I saw.

This afternoon I've started to reballast some track, painting some rocks and tunnel walls, etc.

Maybe it was a good present for me to get.

Yep!  I had the same experience with the Q cam I bought.  Plus, the little thing doesn't focus well on anything close by.

Along with the fact that my mainline has a lot of hidden areas,  and the main runs along the outside of the layout bench work.

I tried to keep the cam pointed in towards the middle, but so many focussing issues.  If I had the cam pointed any other way, the rest of the room that the layout is in shows up.  Not good.

Which to me, is a major flaw on all of the videos you can watch, cab rides around the layout.  They all show way too much of the room, and bystanders, etc.

I don't even know where the little cam is right now.  It's advertised as being a nice dash cam, or helmet cam for bike riders, maybe I try that.

Welcome to the City of Angels!

(not the greatest video but at least it is a private car backing into LAUPT Whistling)

I agree about the cameras. Most of those "sports-action" cameras farture a very wide angle of view. On a train layout you get lots of ceiling and track.

Still it is fun to get an engineer's-eye view of the layout — warts and all.

We will stay in L.A. for a day, maybe two. Perhaps then head up to 'Frisco and Sacramento for a day to see the museums and sights around the Bay.

Top of the page! In L.A.?

I'm kind of in the mood for Chinese! Tag along with me and I'll pick up the tab Dinner
