Hello Railfans!

Top of the day to you! A nice day today, somewhat decently not cold, and rainy. Plus i finally got a good nights sleep last nyt. So no HUMBUGs today, so far.

I see yall been busy while i was snoozing. 2 whole pages, took me a ciggy or two to catch up!

Bear) No need to trouble yourself worrying about my style... ya cant cramp what i dont have! Besides, if her-in-doors aint looking, theres always the Hiawatha twins to wink at. Two winks are better than one!

And ya know, the more i think about it, i think Ed is dangling bait over the gator pit by strategically placing those nice gals..... I think while were distracted hes gonna nab that nice ash tray for his caboose!

Ed you sneaky devil, were on to ya now!

And in case your wondering, the girl in the black shoes was - Phoebe Snow!

Hope you and yours are ok Bear. And no more rock and roll for you.

Name the cat) Well it certainly isnt Chessie. And Id swear the Scottish Fold's fraternal heritage is a Mack truck. Or Claude Atkins.

Housing Market) Dear ole dad was recently in the buying game and had remarked to me that he couldnt find a thing. Available that is. Houses going so fast that as soon as hed call to set up an appointment for a listing... its was either sold already or had a contract on it. Thats back in Dumpwater Va.

He ended up buying the house he was in (didnt want to). On the flip side, the townhouse he has to sell should hopefully go fast then. Be interesting to see. He also told me my childhood home had resold - to some flippers.

They destroyed it and got a ballon price for it.

Garry) Awesome shot of the wintertime Zephyr. Be a blast to try and model that trackwork. And even more fun to operate it!

Snow Hoggers) Just wanted to throw this in the pot..... ya know, if you sent your snow here - you wouldnt have to shovel it there. Were snow poor here. Think of the lil kids. No snowmen, no snowball fights, no snow bunnys, no pot holes. Very sad indeed.

Yall have a great day! Ill come by and pester yall some more later.

Green Lights!

Good Afternoon,

Lion, We saw a serval cat only twice in Africa. They are small at least compared to a leopard. If  I recall correctly they eat Dik Diks which are very tiny deer.

Got my paper clean up done so now it is train time.

Well that wasn't fun.

We've gotten about 10 - 12 inches so far.  It's still snowing now.  A neighbor and I just finished clearing seven driveways.

Of course, the worst is yet to come -- the snow plows have to come around and put all the heavy snow onto our driveways.  Bad language is used on our cul-de-sac after the plows leave.

My wife was worried I'd be cold.  I'm sweating like it's 90° out.

I'm now enjoying an ice cold adult beverage.  I may have three of them.

Kevin what are Cape wings for.  In Maryland they would add to your rain tax for impervious surface.

Computer wars  I tried 3 different programs, including Windoz to create a disc image.  None of them worked.  I ended up reinstalling windows with a USB boot.  Not too painful except I can't get the whole cover of the laptop off.  All the youtube videos show how to pry the front edge.  That's easy, but I can't get the back edge off.  So when I replaced the hard drive, something is in the way and it won't close tightly.  I decided to give it a rest until the sun comes up and I have better light.

We had freezing rain earlier and they wife almost slipped walking the dog.  In our 20 years together she has broken both ankles slipping and sliding.

Kevin what are Cape wings for.

In Cape Coral it is illegal to park a car (except in some circumstances) with any tire off of a paved surface. A standard driveway was only 16 feet wide for most houses. If you own two large SUVs or Pickups, it is difficult to park with all tires on the driveway.

They add these wings to the driveway so larger vehicles can fit side by side. This adds value to Cape Coral houses.

I don't see them many places, but most "flipped" houses get them. They must offer easy R.O.I. for the flippers. Most flipped houses also get outdoor kitchens. That is something I see no use for. I have a grill, and that is enough.

Good Tuesday Morning!

Kevin, your general store photo brought to mind this Shorpy Colorized photo:

Neat Stuff!

Today we leave Chicago aboard the Milwaukee Road and we are headed to Billings Montana with a little stop-over in Milwaukee to visit our friends at Kalmbach Media.

I'll be in the Skytop Observation car:

 Hiawatha by Edmund, on Flickr

A relaxing place to enjoy the view.

RE: The speedy video from the cab. Did you know you can slow the film down a little, for those folks that wanted to get a better look at things?

If you click on Watch in YouTube, then click the settings cog, go to playback speed and choose .25, the slowest setting you can get a little more time to see things.

I did a few calculations and figured that it took at least 75 cartridges of Super-8 film to get that five-hour trip filmed. Back then the raw film was about $3.50 plus about $5. for processing! About $650 with tax!

This is the way a passenger train should look!

There's word of a bit of snow along the way:

Bear got hung up in Chicago while riding the Electroliner so he will catch up with us once he gets his "Traction Fix" in!

Good morning

The Hiawatha and Electroliner are neat Ed.  Always wondered what the inside of that observation car looked like.

I truly enjoyed the avatars Kevin, Bear.  Nice!  How thoughtful,  decisions, decisionsSmile  Quite creative Kevin, those are coolYes  Did you draw that wild hog Bear?  Knowing your art Talent was the first thing that I thought.  Busted a gutLaugh  Love them all!

Well we didn't make it to see the buffalo.  Judy thought it was too cold and there is quite a few desolate stretches of Highway between here and Mankato.  The truck is old but trusty but you never know.  Perhaps a warmer day or in the spring.

We went puddle circling instead, driving around all the city Lakes to look at the Frozen blankets of snow.

Got a little tied up last night in the evening as we made our big platter of chicken enchiladas.  We tend to overindulge when we make those and became tired.  Ended up in the rack early to watch some evening shows and conked outSleepLaugh

Thanks again for the thoughtfulness and have a great day gentlemanWink

Cool!  Are we taking the North Coast Hiawathia?  I think the last time that ran was in 1979.

My wife grew up in Billings,  she and her brother used to go across the NP yard in Billings to get downtown.

Well into the late 60's, a steam loco switcher took sugar beet cars from the NP yard down a spur to the sugar mill.  Today it's called the Western Sugar Co-op.  Not sure what is was back then.

If you look at a map of Billings, the spur leaves the approach tracks to the yard, and follows State Ave., over to the mill.

Yep, there is snow, and plenty of it!  Still coming down!.  We'll be traveling in snow till we get to the Dells, the way the current weather mao shows.

With the current forum problems, I don't think TF can change his avatar, although I do like Kevin's creations.

Mike.

Is there something wrong with this site?  I was trying to post a semi lengthy reply relating to Brent's post and it said 403 Forbidden over and over.  There was nothing wrong with the content.

Shorter posts seem to go through fine.  Is anyone else having a problem like that?

There are some glitches.

If I make something bold and centered, I get 403 forbidden. I need to do some witchcraft to get Weekend Photo Fun to open each week with the title bold and centered.

If I make any copy/pasted text itallic, I also get 403 forbidden.

I have no idea what causes it, but I assume there are other wierd situations also.

Great plan Ed.

I visited Kalmbach in December of 2018. It was an absolute thrill to see the GORRE AND DAPHETID locomotive and the MILWAUKEE RACINE AND TROY.

Steven Otte was a wonderful tour guide, and I enjoyed the time I was there.

Good morning.

I just got in from more snow removal, so I'm tired.  The wind and snow last night made it hard to see where we had cleared yesterday.  More predicted for tonight.

It was 5°F when I started, but it has warmed up to 14°.  It's a good day to stay in and do some railroad work.

Good afternoon ...

Ed .... Thanks for getting us to Milwaukee. I recall riding on the North Shore Electro-liners. It was fun sitting in front across from the motorman, and the train was fast. ... In your two photos, you can see the Electro-liner was equipped for either overhead wires using trolley poles or for third rail using shoes mounted on the trucks (in Chicago).

Kevin .... I also visited MR offices. It was 2012, and Jim Hediger was a delightful tour guide. I briefly met Steve O. and Neil B.

Here I am with Jim:

I have had a few pictures published in MR Trackside Photos over the years. I suppose I should get busy and submit more. Here are two of them:

I'm trying to be "all-inclusive" here but so far our itinerary has brought us into Chicago on the Century (LaSalle Street) and out on the City of New Orleans (Central Station) and this time in by Michigan Central (Central Station again) and out via The Milwaukee Road (Union Station) I doubt there will be time to get back to Chicago but if there is, maybe we can arrive on the Super Chief?

We will have to have the Diner switched to the Northern Pacific or maybe the Great Northern as The Milwaukee Road skipped right by Billings Whistling Fortunately, there are enough switching crews on duty to handle this task.

I've been timed out a bunch, clicking on various posts.  Unlike a couple months ago, it doesn't last for half a day.

Now my desktop has decided to restart itself on a random basis.  Oy veh!

I did get my wife's laptop up and running with a swapped solid state hard drive.  The keyboard problem on my other laptop seems to be more wide spread among owners of the brand.

Hello Railfans!

Top of the evening to ya! Hope everyone is doing well tonight. Not too shabby here. Was a purty day today, i think we made it into the 60's.

Not much going on so not much to report. Some interesting posts floating around the site that are making some good reading.

Ed) Once again - nice job. The shot of the Warbonnet F's was a home run. This will be the 1 million and oneth time ive said it - i love that livary!

403 error) I get this too. In my case, it happens when i edit a 'quote' while crafting replys. Somewhere during the edit i am messing with the 'hidden characters' of the quote. So when finished, and i hit the "post reply", it doesnt process well back through the server. Thus - 403 error.

So when you see me do a manual quote like "quoting = so-n-so" and no grey background, now you know why. Sometimes its just easier to retype the quote than fight with command characters you cant see.

Henry) Did you get my PM? Cuz i have the answer to your woes..... one, big, HAMMER! Itll fix your puter, AND lower your stress level - i promise!

Ok folks, thats about it for this pass.... see yall after while.

A#1 North!
