You can download the drawing of your choice, and then open it in Microsoft "Paint" or any other drawing program. From there you can paint away.

It's also advisable to save them as bitmaps (.bmp). If you save them as .jpeg's or such, they tend to get a bit messy, leaving them hard to "paint".
BTW, Corel also makes a very good program (Corel Draw) to modify these drawings. But the MS Paint program is also quite good for a freebie included on your system.
Oh, and if you are going to "paint" a black engine, I recommend you don't use actual black. Custom mix a really dark gray and either use it for the outlines or for the "paint". If the outline and the body color are both black, you won't be able to change the color back to something else later, and all the detail will be lost.
