Model Power Bullet Train, custom painted and powered!
Posted by Darth Santa Fe on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 9:56 PM

My latest finished project!  I've always wanted a model of the original "Bullet Train", and came across a good deal on an unpowered 6-car set from Model Power.  It took quite a bit of time to finish, but the results were great!  Including all the materials and a couple mint-in-box Lindsay motors, I somehow managed to spend no more than about $100 on the whole thing.Big Smile

Hi Darth!

Another amazing project! You are a genius at powering things and getting things to run properly.

A couple of questions:

- What size is your layout, and what radii are the outer and inner curves?

Thanks,

Dave

P.S. Have you done any more work on your McKeen Motor Car?

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Thanks!  The finished portion of the layout is 4' x 7'.  The outer curve is a 22" radius, and the inner curve is an 18" radius.

I've been thinking of how I want to move forward with the McKeen car as far as details.  I might 3D print an interior and some other parts for it.  I have everything needed to finish it though, so it's another one I'll be getting around to doing sometime.

Thanks Darth!

The reason I asked the question is that I want to run the Canadian Pacific 'Canadian' train on my layout eventually. I just wanted to get an idea of what the train would look like. My layout is 5' 4" x 12' and the outer and inner curves are approx. 29 1/2" and 27".

I look forward to seeing your progress on the McKeen Motor Car. Mine has quit running. It is on its second decoder. I'll have to figure out what has gone wrong.

Cheers!!

Dave

I have one of those MP sets.  Looks like a great project!  Lindsey L140 power trucks.  I have to look those up.

They've been out of production for about 50 years now, but they're really good quality and run great.  I also have the larger L-740 trucks powering a few diesels, one of which was a full ALCO FA kit made by Lindsay (Hobbytown bought the FA body and details after Lindsay went out of business - still makes them today!).

Thanks Darth, I found that out, after searching around.
