I sincerely apologize that my first post offended some, even to the point of the discussion being locked.
I'm an old guy who has a great interest in the hobby and often want to comment on others' posts but couldn't without joining.
Believe me it took a long, long time before I created the account. I want to thank those who offered reassurance.
To all, have a great day . . . and I agree, let's get back to discussing model railroading.
Welcome aboard Soupy. This was the first internet forum I ever joined and it has been an enjoyable 14 years.

Tom who is a good guy, put a merciful end to your thread before it went astray. MR puts on a free forum. Threads critical of the forum get locked. It's different than Facebook or Twitter deciding what is truth even if it is not critical of their organization. I wouldn't lose a second of sleep over it. If anyone else was offended, I have no idea why, but that's the hallmark of 2020. They need to put their Big Boy model railroader panties on and get over it.
Don't be a lurker. Step up and say what you think. If you are wrong, people will tell you and you will be more knowledgeable.
edit Or you can deny that you are incorrect, in which case, you will be just as happy, knowing you are the smartest guy on the forum

What a humble post! The fact that you stepped up to try again demonstrates an interest in moving beyond net security to talk about model railroading.
We all started somewhere in this hobby. I can put you to sleep telling you all the numerous learning curves I continue to overcome. Regardless of your level of passion in this hobby, being perseverant is also invaluable.
Hey Soupy,
No need to apologise. As others have said, you didn't do anything wrong. I think your question about the safety of unsecured sites was quite valid. Once you start a thread it is impossible to control what direction it takes.
Please stay involved in the forums. I'm sure that you have lots to offer.
Cheers!!
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
SoupyTo all, have a great day . . . and I agree, let's get back to discussing model railroading.
Hang on Soupy (OK, I know, close but not quite)
Thanks for sticking around
Hope to see you back soon —
Cheers, Ed

Soupy, welcome aboard. As one of the posters to your first thread, I can only say that in my 17 years on the forum, it was, let's say, the oddest first post I have ever encountered. I agree with others that Internet security must be taken seriously. But to indicate that you were nervous even joining the forum with no other comment raised a bit of skepticism in my mind about where you might be headed.
So, tell us about your interest in model railroading. Do you have a layout? Tell us more. Inquiring minds want to know.

Remember, Soupy, your thread is competing with one about cat pee. We're not particularly proud of anything here, except maybe our modeling.
Enjoy the forum.
