Changing out wheels on Athearn Bluebox trailers
Posted by SD45M on Sunday, December 6, 2020 4:06 PM

Hey everyone,

I recently bought an Athearn RTR 85' flatcar which came with two trailers, one CNW and one Milwaukee Road. Taking out one of my old Bluebox trailers to compare, I notice that the newer trailers come with a metal axle instead of the wheels and axles all being one piece (with a split down the middle). I'd like to replace the wheels and axles if possible.

Included is a photo of the two trailer undersides compared.

Doing some research, I found parts from A-Line that include rubber wheels, and in general might look better than the stock Bluebox wheels, though unfortunately it doesn't come with a metal axle. They also sell trailer floors ($18 each). I'm unsure if I should just let it go and leave the trailer as is, or bite the bullet and buy the parts.

Thanks for reading, and I appreciate your input.
