Excuses to avoid doing MR stuff
Posted by selector on Saturday, November 7, 2020 4:15 PM

1. That parcel should be delivered, this afternoon....no, today.  Don't want to get in the middle of something and have to stop.

2. I need new glue.  I think I can get some tomorrow.

3. I wonder if they have what I need. I'll call them.....tomorrow.

4. I don't have any mojo today.  Maybe tomorrow.

5. I want to run a train, but I have to clean the tracks first.

6. I need a bigger driver for those screws.  I'll pick one up on Friday.

7. I can't find a flippin' thing in here! I gotta get organized.  Tomorrow...for sure.

9. We're going away, and I need to get other things done.  I'll deal with this when we get back.

10. I'll just check my emails.

11. I wonder if anybody saw my post on FB.

12. Oh, that coffee smells good.  I'll have a sip and read the paper...again.

13. I'll get in there and see that there's a ton to do and I'll just stare at it.  Fuggettaboudit.

14. Geez!!  No mojo today either!

What else ya got?

The only thing that comes between me and my model railroading stuff is doctor appointments.

What else ya got?

I once had to stop my MR activities because the house was on fire.

Spent the next day with the insurance company, board-up people and electricians.

Had them come back out on a Sunday so I could get power back on in the layout room!

I have my priorities.

Fortunately, no damage to the basement or layout Wink

Cheers, Ed

My wife doesn't mind my modeling....

She just cant stand to see me "happilly" glueing stuff, when the  to do list is sooooooo long ( all HER  to do stuff.)

Meanwhile: I work, so I can buy model stuff. But, my boss likes me most when I'm working overtime....

Hence, by the time I get home, I'm too tired to do anything...... but give the paycheck to my wife .... who then goes out and buys more stuff for me to  fix/build/move/feed (we have farm animals) / ... you get the idea ...

Rust...... It's a good thing !

I have all my track purchased now but I don't have capability of hooking it up to the bridge track yet so I better not start laying my track.

I only have enough styrene to build three steel bents out of the five for that other bridge so I better wait until I get another package of styrene before I continue that

I have some more foam to glue together but I'm out of clear caulk.  I have some white caulk but I don't much care for white caulk even though it's going to be painted over.  I better wait until I get some more clear caulk

The model was going good but all of the sudden I don't like the way that one portion of it is turning out.  I don't quite know what to do with that situation yet.  I better put that one on the back burner for a half a year

Dang that's turning out nice!  But I'm out of rust and gray paint.  Well can't work on that today even though the hobby store is only a mile and a half away

Oh, .. and I do have moreWhistling

My knee is hurting today.  Must be the weather change in the upcoming rain.  I could sit at the table with all my weight off of it and build a model.  No it might feel better propped up on a pillow on the couch watching TV because they have a Pawn Stars Marathon going on today

Those custom Piers I built are all done and ready to start getting them fitted to the bridge.  Well, the abutments aren't done for the other two sections of the three part bridge.  Oh yeah, how can I start fitting in the bridge when the abutments aren't done

That bridge was tweaked and moved over a little bit after I added foam on the sides of the approaches.  The old cork was removed.  Now I need to put the cork back in the right place.  But I don't have any new cork yet.  The only cork I have has adhesive on the bottom of it that's equivalent to 1/120 of a millimeter.  It won't match up to the other corkLaughLaughLaugh

It's not freezing and snowing outside. Building the 1/1 shop takes priority.

That’s no excuse, you could be building a fleet of feasible fictious freight cars, pre-August 54.WhistlingSmile, Wink & Grin

It's a hobby.  For me it's a winter time hobby, when the weather outside does not allow me to do other activities I like.

I'm not a full time model railroader like many of you are.

I don't feel pressured that I have to be working on my model railroad.

I railfan the real thing while I'm out driving around.

A few years ago I bought Mrs NorthBrit a new ironing board  and  the old one became a layout board (that folded up after each running session).  A little layout that was huge fun.

This is where my bathtub layout becomes handy. There is always room for a layout.

Just gotta be careful, in my case, not to get electrocuted. Indifferent

It's just too nice out.  I used to live in Massachusetts, so November was time to get serious about modeling because there would be a lot of stay-at-home days ahead.  It's low 70's here and sunny, so I will take advantage of the weather and get some fresh air and sunshine.

Seems to me if you are looking for excuses to avoid model train stuff you might be in the wrong hobby.  Just saying...

Why would you EVER need an excuse not to work on the layout?  What about reasons TO work on it!

Riogrande5761 and kasskaboose,

You guys are too serious!!Smile, Wink & Grin I believe the thread was posted in order to add some levity to these rough times. Given the current state of affairs, anything that will make us smile is worth the effort.

Respectfully,

Or maybe I've had circumstances that stood in the way of building a layout for so many years that I have a hard time relating to needing an excuse to NOT work on a layout!  Stick out tongue  I suppose if I were like some of the rest of you, the humor wouldn't have been lost on me.  Cut me some slack and a little empathy puh leez.  Kisses

Yeah, this one gets in the way a lot. I think about retirement, but every two weeks they give me a little bag of money and I keep going back. I think I might be addicted.

Robert, if it's not a chore or a bore, and you actually still look forward to getting to work most days, it's probably not time yet.  On the other hand, you don't want to overstay your body's welcome.  When it wears out, where will you live?  The time to retire is when the work is no longer fulfilling and when you begin to feel resentment, anger, dread.

Hobbies can always wait.  Just not forever.

We want to move closer to wife's work.  No, too expensive.  Start planning layout.  Wait, opportunity rising - stop layout.  Nope, Covid changed that one.
