Remove Shell From Bachmann N 44 And 70 Ton Locos

I am having trouble removing the shells from the Bachmann N scale 44 and 70 locomotives.  Does any forum member know how this is done?

Hi Caldreamer. 

I've used the following methods for the N scale Bachmann 44 and 70 ton GE loco:

For the 70 ton loco, remove the fuel tank first. My 44 ton loco didn't require doing this step.

Then remove the front and back couplers.  Each coupler box is held in place by a tiny Philips screw. 

Once the couplers/boxes are removed you can then remove the loco body.  To aid in removing the body from the mechanism I used one toothpick for each side of the body. I used this technique on both the GE 44 and 70 ton locos, however the 44 ton body was somehow harder to remove than the  70 ton body.  One thing, don't try pull the body off while holding on either of the two wheel assemblies-it's better to hold the underbody part of the frame used to attach the fuel tank.

I detailed, repainted and decaled both N scale Bachmann GE 44 and 70 ton locos recently and are posted elsewhere on the MR photo gallery.  The GE 44 ton was lettered for the Pacific Electric RR, the GE 70 Ton was lettered for the Southern Pacific.

Also, if you go to the Bachmann site you should be able to find the diagram and parts list for the locos. Do a search for Bachmann forums and the site will pop right up. A couple of times I tried to post the link and it was removed.
