I usually do to the ones that come apart fairly easy. I buy Oxford models and the body's come off with two small screws.
I use sitting ho people but you have too cut them in half to fit in the cars. I tried some N scale people but they just did not look correct.
On some cars you have trim the people even more to fit but when your done the little bit of detail you did to your cars and trucks look great.

I have done a few vehicles with people in them. As you say it can be difficult to open them up.He’s not in the car but looks pretty good standing next to it. The microphone cord is a stretched spring.The Metro and Caddy were easy.

Convertibles tend to be a little easier but you still have trim our ho people.
Some modelers have asked me why I do it and I usually quote JFK, "because I can" Not the exact quote but most get the idea.
I have quite a few vehicles with drivers and passengers, but when possible, leave the vehicle's body merely sitting on the chassis, rather than glued-on. This allows me to park empty cars, or open a vehicle to insert drivers and passengers, then put them on the road...
Pretty-well all of the locomotives have at least two crew members in their cabs, too...
Most of the crew members are not easily removeable.

I've added drivers to all my locomotives. Haven't got around to doing the vehicles yet, but I'll definintely be adding them. It helps that most of my trucks will be built from military model kits, which include drivers in them.

Somehow I managed to cram three itty bitty LEDs in to the headlights.I made a pair of Rolls, in the A&E Nero Wolfe series he drove two different Rolls. A black and grey above and the maroon and grey below.

Yeah, hand controls only. A lot of my drivers and passengers don't have to buy underwear, either, as most of them have their bums removed in order to fit into their vehicles.

Same with me, as much as I can. Some vehicles can not be opened without damage, so they end up in parking lots. Passenger cars need passengers, and locomotives need enginers and firemen, if there is a way to get inside them

The cars or vehicle that will not come apart without destroying it are usually parked in my many parking spaces.
Most of my drivers and passengers are half the people they once were.
