Need HELP with MR 75th Anniversary DVD Set
Posted by danmerkel on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 6:47 PM

Has anyone had any success printing a page or series of pages from their MR 75th Anniversary DVD set? I've tried on numerous occasions and always get the same error:

ERROR: Undefined

OFFENDING COMMAND: eexec

STACK:

/quit

-directory-

-mark-

HELP at the bottom of the frame says that you can print but I've been unable to print to either my printer OR print to a pdf file. If anyone can shed light on this for me, I would certainly appreciate it. There are times when I want to print an article or drawing and take it to my workbench. Lugging my computer & monitor up & down the steps isn't practical at all. :)

Thank you!

I know I've done it in the past, but not recently, so I just gave it a shot again, and it worked fine. I just randomly opened an issue and scrolled a few pages in, and hit print. Sent it to a PDF, came out fine. I'm on Windows 10. I know the whole thing does not work on newer Macs because Apple blocked the older Adobe program that is used by the collection, but I was under the impression that made the whole thing useless, not just printing.

If you can't get the .pdf to open and you really need a print you could try the Print Screen key which will copy your monitor view to the clipboard (or whatever Mac might call it?) then open any photo editing program and choose file>open new image from clipboard (or possibly Ctrl+V) and the image should show up. You can manipulate and crop it a bit, maybe sharpen it, then print.

Not a great solution but better than nothing.

Good Luck, Ed

The .pdf files Kalmbach uses are nonstandard, by intent.  If you are using a print system relying on open PDF conventions (which eexec makes me start thinking) you will get an error that is probably just this cryptic type.  You won't be able to 'print to PDF' for security reasons ... valid ones for copy protection.

You need to tell us the OS and both the printer drivers and printer types you're using.  Do you have PostScript support?

Incidentally a better answer is to get a readable tablet with enough storage to load the Complete Collection,  and one of those $12 portable DVD writers from eBay to get it there.  Then you have a portable, scrollable, searchable resource instead of smudged inkjet approximations...

Thanks.

Yes, I've done tht but like you say, it is very cumbersome and time consuming. :(

Are you implying that  this "lugging" resolves your print issue ?

(edit)

DUH !.. . I guess you lug the computer and monitor to the bench ?

He's implying that if he can't print the pages, the only way he can read them is by taking the whole system to the workbench and running the DVD there.
Even then it can be annoying to have to switch gaze from looking down at close focus to reading a bright screen.  The piece of paper is right there, like a reference book...

They're not non-standard PDF files. They simply are password protected, and the password is embedded in the app. If you try to open them with Adobe Reader, it will prompt for a password. Which Kalmbach will not reveal since it would mean their entire property would be open for anyone to copy.

True but the reader program offers a print option which appears to work for some people but not for me. :(

Instead of just clicking on the app to open it, try right-click and then select "run as administrator"

SOLVED! Smile

I have never had a program that worked like this previously but I figured out how to print from the DVD collection after all. When you click on the print icon at the top of the screen, you first need to select a printer. Click on that then click on the printer that is installed on your system and you are good to go. I'm not positive but I don't think that you need to do this each time you run the program; I think your choice is saved.

In my previous experinece, Windows always used the default printer w/o asking first. But I was just messing around and trying to see if there was anything that I missed somewhere along the line and saw the select printer button. Thanks to all of you who have replied; those of you who said that you could print gave me reason to keep digging until I found the answer. :)

Thanks again!

Good to know, I have the Trains set and it stopped working on my 11year old Mac as I upgraded software
