Has anyone tried this? I'm curious about it but am a little skeptical...

Looks to me quite similar to the way Shapeways work. You design your own building using  Faller´s web-based CAD software  upload your design to Faller, who will print it and mail it to you. Sounds easy, but I have a hunch that it isn´t just that.

Faller talks about 6-10 days from uploading the design until your building gets shipped. I guess the printing and packing is done in Germany, so you have to allow for quite a bit of shipping time  (and costs) until it reaches the shores of the US.

Happy times!

One interesting detail is that the 'fine detail' components are not printed, but injection-molded; presumably one of the features of the 'architectural' software is that dimensions for doors, windows etc. are fixed modules and will be preserved as you work.

This leads me to wonder if Faller might be willing to include other modularity corresponding to other 1:87 detail parts (for example a revived Selley line as considered in another thread here) which would expand the range of modeling style while preserving the 'kit' advantage of all the parts consistently fitting as delivered.

Wow, that is an incredible idea. I hope Faller has a lot of success with it.

And... hopefully... we will see another manufacturer on this side of the world do something similar.

Henry: Thank you for making the link work.

I'll probably wait to do anything with it until I can find some different pictures of how the finished product looks. Thanks!

Also, if it is printed in Germany, you might want to hold back for a while because Germany-US shipping is basically at a standstill right now.

I would wonder about print quality. It looks like they are using FDM printing, and their photographs show visible layer lines and artifacts. I kind of doubt their claim that these prints match their production building quality by pictures alone.
