Man! I LIKE IT!! That's definitely without a doubt a GE diesel! Though not a U-Boat, it still sounds nice and deep like a typical 4 cycle GE. You can also hear the turbo charger.

I may sound corny, but that distinctive bell brings back fond memories as it is the same exact type of bell that Seaboard Coast Line had on their U33s and U36s back in the 70s.

RE: The horn.

Dougal, I don't think the horn is that bad! It is prototypical, though I have to admit that a Leslie S5T would have been nice! IMHO, this horn is definetly a 3 chimer. Sounds like a Nathan. For a comparison, one can go to 5 Chime Horn Consultants and click on the prototype samples. Western U.S roads such as the pre-merger Santa Fe and Burlington Northern seemed to favor 3 chimers more than eastern roads. (Though Conrail also had a lot of units with 3 chimers).

If the model sounds as good as this sound sample, Atlas will have some healthy sales! Looks like "soundwise" QSI has a winner!

I agree that it sounds like a GE, but I'll have to hear it for myself. The bell is great, but that horn is too (19)50's-ish for me.

I see what you're sayihg Dougal. Some of the horns that are still around today were developed in the 50s and 60s. However, it "sounds" like you prefer the more modern horns like the K5LA and K5H. These are two of my favorites as, IMHO, they're quite melodic.

While the horn used on this GE model is still around today, it would have been more appropriate for QSI to use a "modern horn" for this "modern locomotive".

As mentioned by others, I'm looking forward to the day when we can select "which horn" we'd like on a QSI equipped unit. For now, we're stuck with Soundtraxx as the alternative which is still a good option........but also expensive.
