Any one going to this show this coming weekend? Is it a good show for buying stuff? I think they used to hold this show at the Pomona fairplex. Is it worth the 200 mile drive for me to go?

January can be a good show with all the new product out & after Christmas sales. Hope you're not too close to the floods.
Be safe & not sorry if you're in doubt about a 200 mile drive.
If you go, please let us know how it turned out!

I think the Pomona show is/was done by GATS. I received a postcard yesterday for this show and it's not the same group. The postcard advertises all trains in all scales. All trains would be nice since the last GATS I attended had too many non-train related vendors IMHO. I'm not crazy about the $9 admission price but there's a discount coupon on their web site:

It only shaves a dollar off the admission fee though... sheesh. Wonder what the parking fee is at the Queen Mary too. Oh well, now that the rain has let up it still might be a fun way to spend a Saturday morning!

The Model Train Expo is at the Queen Mary this year, it was at the Fairplex in Pomona last year
www.themodeltrainexpo.com
The show in Pomona later is indeed the Great American Train Show
www.greatamericantrainshow.com
the Model Train Expo (MTE) used to be held at the same location, the Fairplex, in Pomona as the GATS, but the MTE organisers decided this year to hold it at the Rusty Bucket (the Queen Mary) a lot of vendors have stated that they will not be attending the MTE this year because they dislike the vendor room set up inside the QM ( alot of trundling product up and down stairs) So it might be a bit of a bust this year, I wasnt planning on going this year, but I do plan on hitting the GATS later.
Also there is yet another train show, the Worlds Greatest Hobby On Tour Train Show next month at the Long Beach Convention center, I heard the booths there are very expensive , so I dont know how many vendors will show up.

Good Luck
Have fun with your trains

I don't know which direction you live to make a 200 mile drive to Long Beach, but there is a very good train show this weekend in Bakersfield. It is run by the local club and has a great mix of selling booths and display layouts.

Seems to me the parking at the Queen Mary is about $10. I've been there for the Big Train Show in June, and the vender area is on 3 levels, each one of which is small due to the big hole in the middle; lots of up & down climbing. I'd wait for the GATS; better layout. As for the World's Greatest Hobby Show, the reviews that have been posted on this forum haven't been too good. Personally, I wouldn't drive that distance just for the show. If I was going to be in the area, & didn't have anything better to do, I might go. But if you're 200 miles away, that means you either have to go over the Grape Vine or Cajon Pass, and you'll probably hit snow. Go to your local hobby shop and save some gas.
