A thread where we show off our projects.
pn my layout.
(My Model Railroad, My Rules)
These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway. As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).
Jimmy, that looks fantastic. I especially like the fall colours on the trees.
I've mostly completed my next On30 locomotive project:
This was a test fitting, to see how it looked on the chassis. The chassis is from an IHC Mikado with the lead and trailing trucks swapped out, and the rest I built. Owing to my Shapeways package getting stuck in New York, I had to improvise with what I had on hand.

Nice work guys! I really like on30.
I finished up my version of the Downtown Deco Fallberg Station kit. I replaced the front wall with wood and added Grandt Line doors. The white paint is chalk paint that my wife used on a project of hers.
I finished up two Kato NW2 decoder installs...
Chuck - Modeling in HO scale and anything narrow gauge
trwroute I finished up two Kato NW2 decoder installs...
Hey, Chuck...I have a Kato NW2 that will need a decoder install. It looks like you did some cutting to make room for yours. What did you do for the install?
Russ
Modeling the early '50s Erie in Paterson, NJ. Here's the link to my railroad postcard collection: https://railroadpostcards.blogspot.com/
Russ, It is really easy to do. I just cut a chunk off the front of one of the frame halves, I used my Dremel to cut a small channel to run the light wires to the back of the loco, and wired everything to the front light board (just like a Kato N scale loco).
I didn't need to do any other cutting on the frame.
Good morning from partly cloudy and hot Northeast Ohio!
Jimmy, thanks for starting us out, your layout is really coming along nicely.
Danny, great work on building that HOn30 locomotive, not something I would every try.
Chuck, nice looking structure, and great work on that decoder install, there is not any room for a decoder in those NW-2's without some cutting of the metal weight.
I managed to get some stuff done this week.
Red Caboose 1944 AAR Boxcar Kit, added a plug door from the scrap box along with styrene rod for the additional door rods and A-Line sill steps. Painted with Scalecoat II Armour Yellow, Boxcar Red and Silver paints and lettered with Champ Decals. These cars a XLI (Boxcar, Loader Equipped, Insulated) rebuilds of some old GATC and ACF regular boxcars for use in moving Campbell Soup products out of Napoleon, OH.
Eastern Car Works PRR G26 65' Gondola Kit. Painted with Scalecoat II PRR Freight Car Red and lettered with Champ Decals. The Lehigh Valley (Controlled by the PPR) acquired 50 of the PRR G26 Mill Gons in the late 30's which is why I painted it with PRR Freight Car Color. The Lehigh Valley was one of the railroads that serviced the Bethlehem Steel plants in the Bethlehem and Allentown areas so would need mill gons to transport finished steel products from these areas.
Since I did the DT&I XLI boxcar thought I would show a train with a couple of more XLI boxcars, that is the 8th XLI boxcar I have done for the Campbell's Soup Service that the DT&I handled, they had several hundred XLI and RBL Boxcars in this service.
Gary, thanks for the Alaska Railroad Picture you posted last week, you took that about the time I left Alaska, my office was just up the hill from where you took that picture. My wife's parents rode the RDC's down to Seward for a boat trip on Resurection Bay when they visited us up in Anchorage.
Thanks for looking,
Rick Jesionowski

Happy Friday from very rainy and partially flooded Southwest Florida.
Jimmy: Thank you for starting the Weekend Photo Fun thread this week. I love to see the progress updates about your layout worl. The whole thing is coming along quite nicely.
Danny: Nioce job on the narrow aguge HOn30 locomotive.
Chuck: Great work on the Downtown Deco building kit. Your choices for paint on both the stone surtfaces and the wood look perfect. Also, great job on the decoder installation. I don't have to do that to my NW2 because I am a DC Dinsaur.
Rick: The DETROIT TOLEDO AND IRONTOWN boxcar is beautiful. I used the plug door castings yiou sent me on a STRATTON AND GILLETTE boxcar. Thank you very much, it looks very good. Now I wish I would have added that extra door latch rodding.
This week I am going to chase this train I saw leaving the Centerville yard this morning. I did a "Train Chasing on the STRATTON AND GILLETTE" feature a couple of years ago in Weekend Photo Fun, and I have enough pictures to do it agaiin... hang on!
Everyone be safe and enjoy the weekend.

Living the dream.
Jimmy .... Thanks for starting Phto Fun. Your layout progrss is very good.
Danny .... Nice On30 loco. I think it is an 0-8-0T.
Chuck ... I like the little building, and your deocder installation in a KAto NW2 looks great.
Rick ... I like the DT&I insulated boxcar, and the 65' LV Gon. Nice phto of the DT&I train.
Kevin .... Your S&G boxcar and your loco look great !
...
Currently, I am running a 5-car Great Northern passenger train. It is to represent one of the regional trains GN operated from and to St. Paul, MN. Destinations for those trains were Duluth,MN; Winnepeg, Canada; and Fargo, ND.. My train has a mail car, baggage car, parlor-cafe car, and two coaches.
These pictures show the train departing my Union Station, rolling past Hinteland, and arriving in Prairie View.
The last photo shows one of my forced perspective roads which is wider in the foreground than in the background.

Heartland Division CB&QKevin .... Your S&G boxcar and your loco look great !
Garry: Thank you for the compliment. The boxcar was a project I completed months ago using some parts that Rick sent to me. I reposted it because he showed something similar in his post this week.
Your GREAT NORTHERN train leaving Union Station makes a stunning photograph.
I am continuing the Train Chase as it goes through the countryside.
trwroute Russ, It is really easy to do. I just cut a chunk off the front of one of the frame halves, I used my Dremel to cut a small channel to run the light wires to the back of the loco, and wired everything to the front light board (just like a Kato N scale loco). I didn't need to do any other cutting on the frame.
Thanks, Chuck. Sounds like the way to go.
Still chasing the little short local.
Looks like we are in cattle country on the edge of town now.
Lots of outstadning work so far. I've been working on a project I've been thinking about for a long time. The results are mostly from hacking what I had on hand after I got inspired enough to proceed with it.
It's based on a hacked Bachmann GE 70-tonner that I'd converted to HOn3. I detrucked one end, built a frame from hard brass, then built up an old LaBelle FW&D narrowgauge coach to make the carbody.
Much more about it in the build thread:
Building Some THING Different: My New HOn3 Diesel Railcar
Mike Lehman

Jimmy: Thanks for kicking off WPF. You scene is coming along nicely.
Danny: That scratch / kitbash On30 loco is an ambitious project. Looking good.
Chuck: That small station is unique. I like the wood facing on the front.
Rick: Good looking new rolling stock. The city up the hillside is a neat effect.
Garry: Those are some realistic scenes and good photos.
Kevin: I like the antique vehicle in that scene.
Mike: Your railcar is also an ambitious project. It's looking pretty neat.
I decided to try out my consist of GP30 / GP9 / GP35 which I had not run in awhile. I use the GP35 as a pusher just for fun. All works well, with the consist handling 32 cars (some with heavier loads) on the 2.4% grade. I am currently tweaking the sound settings. They all have LokSound Selects, with appropriate motor sounds for the loco type, so it is an interesting mix.

Modeling HO with a transition era UP bent
Mike: I really like your conversion rail car. I commented in your other thread earlier.
Paul: Your layout has a really nice backdrop, it looks great.
Still chasing that STRATTON AND GILLETTE train. We are outside of town now.
Continuing to follow that little SGRR trains as it enters another town along its travels.
Thank you for starting the WPF for June 6-7-8 Jimmy and for showing those great photos
Danny, that is some outstanding modeling, bar none, on your #8/2 Tank engine! Super job
I like the way you tucked that little decoder into the NW-2 Chuck. I took one look at one that I had and decided to pass it along to someone who could use it for parts. Clever idea there
Your recent paint and lettering examples are superb, Rick. I especially like mill gons. So long and sleek-looking.
Train chasing is a great idea, Kevin! What fun
Good to see some passenger action there, Garry! Beautiful models and layout!
You have a fun project with that doodlebug, Mike.
— and thanks for the great shots of your layout, Paul
I was a little distracted with some computer-upgrade projects this week but I did manage to slap some decals on the Overland PRR, X29 at least.

Great stuff, everyone — Ed
Some great photos this weekend.I like your steam loco tbdanny and Chuck's station.Great idea with the forced perspective road Garry, looks great in the photo.Kevin I have one of those old soft top jalopys, a bit overscale but works in the foreground.Mike I enjoyed reading about how you put the powered diesel railcar together. My Ghost train uses a Bachmann 44 chassis too.Paul that control panel looks good as well. Here is a photo of a Ghost Train on my Pacific East Coast railway in Australia.
Looking forward to more good stuff.
Alan Jones in Sunny Queensland (Oz)
A ton of great stuff so far for sure. Thanks for all the love everyone
Kevin ... Thanks for your comment on my pictures, and thanks for your continued photos of S&G.
Paul ... Thanks for commenting on my photos. I like seeing your UP action.
Mike L ... Looks like a very creative kitbash is in progress.
Ed ... Glad you liked my GN passenger train. Your PRR X29 boxcar is very noce.
Alan J ... Thanks for your remark about my photos. I have forced perspective on several roads on my layout. ... That is quite a photo of the ghost train.
Ed: Your "Buy War Bonds" PENNSYLVANIA boxcar is certainly suitable for this weekend. Beautiful work on the paint and decals.
Alan: I like the ghost train picture. The "real" Ghost Train was a man named Alan Rails. His parents were tragically killed in a grade crossing accident, and he became a superhero with the ability to summon a ghost train by blowing a magical train whistle and shouting "All Aboard". Only he said "All Aboard" like Samuel L. Jackson would say it.
Garry: Thank you for the kind comment. Our train chasing will continue...
It looks like our little train is passing through the small town of Hayes.
Jimmy, Thanks for starting the WPF with a bus scene.
Chuck, Great looking little station, those DTD kits beg customization. Nice clean decoder installs too.
Kevin, Your train chase is fun filled.
Thanks to all the contributors and viewers, have a good weekend and regards, Peter
Peter: That is an ecellent model of a covered hopper car.
The train chase has led me to the deep woods now.
"One difference between pessimists and optimists is that while pessimists are more often right, optimists have far more fun."
I got Bear-Tooned! What a great weekend.
I chased our little train down by a log cabin built right next to the railroad tracks.
Happy Sunday, there is still a bit of weekend left for some more photo shares.
Here is the train I have been chasing again, this time on a large bridge.
Peter .... I look forward to your weekly contribution to Photo Fun, and you certainly did not disappoint me this time the BN covered hopper and the detailed backgorund building.
Bear ..... LOL.
Kevin .... It is fun following the S&G train.

I spent some time this week working on some of the cars for my George Bush funeral train. I replaced some plastic wheels on a couple of Riverossi cars with 36' metal wheels and installed body mounted couplers on several.
This photo is from the 'test run' of the cars. Next is are few more vista-dome cars, interiors and lighting.
Keep the photos and ideas coming guys. Thanks to you WPF is always the best thread of the week.
Remember its your railroad
