Thanks everyone for your input. I'll tread carefully.

Agree with Rob, was a real waste of money

dieselsmokeI was considering ordering a Geep cab from CMR and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with them.
The resin shells and related parts vary in quality, but I consider them pretty much trash. Many of the parts do not fit well, and don't expect something like a cab to be a drop-in replacement of the same dimensions as what it should be for the intended model. Don't waste your money.

I agree with Randy's post. I've bought detail parts from Bob's son's, no problem.
If you have an issue with the conflict about BDO, than don't buy them.

"One last thing of note, in order to sue a copywright must be registered."
Not true. You can still take legal action but you don't have as much protection as when a copyright is registered.
Thanks Rick dti406, I didn't know about Lines West.

rrebell dti406 Patent does not apply but it is automatically copyrighted and that lasts for 70 years after the death of the owner. Rick Jesionowski Copyright and patent are two different things. an object has a patent.

I hope we’re not going down the copyright/patent road again. Every time that happens the result is an irate moderator and a deleted thread.

At least one of the BDO shells was made from a mold taken from a Rapido loco - Jason Shron posted about this back when it happened. It was obvious because the BDO item contained specifics that ONLY the Rapido model had, despite the same loco being available from others.
But who knows what to believe any more?
CMR though is a shop, not much of a maker. Most of the shells they sell are made by others, they just sell them. The late Bob Hartle started it (he was on here as CMR Products) and is now run by his sons. They are not affiliated with BDO.

Modeling the Reading Railroad in the 1950's

I get the copyright rule.
But, if HO Scale models followed the same way as others, then Atlas could not make a GP38 the same dimensions as Bachmann's. Or Athearn's. Or Proto2000's. While they are all similar models, all the same dimensions, similar drives, each is a little different than the others.
Are we sure they aren't copied? Just minor changes prior to the new mass-produced version under a different name?Seems like until a manufacturer says it's a copy and can prove it, we are using a very broad brush here, but only on certain ones, while not using that same broad brush on others.
So which of the above GP38's is the knock off copy? And of who's?
NOTICE: I am in no way condoning any copyright infringing in any way shape or form. But, I am saying before we use a wide brush, make sure we have the right brush.

Rule 1: This is my railroad.
Rule 2: I make the rules.
Rule 3: Illuminating discussion of prototype history, equipment and operating practices is always welcome, but in the event of visitor-perceived anacronisms, detail descrepancies or operating errors, consult RULE 1!
There are many companys who knock off stuff but only the complete kit ones get to go to court and some manufactures don't care if they no longer make a part. Last, patents only have a 15 year run, providing they have a patent. I doubt Atlas patented the shell.
Depends on who makes it.
All the ones I have bought, are made by either CMR themselves, or the decals maker they use, which no one else has made anywhere.
As far as the BDO stuff, none of it was of use for me anyways. Last I checked however, no manufacturer had said anything on copyright infringement against him, unless I missed something. (If they have, the courts would halt all his sales.)
Avoiding a hobby shop because they carry one line that someone has accused of something yet to be proven seems a bit odd.
As I said, everything I have gotten from them is well done, and all of those things are not available from anyone else anywhere else in any material, so no possible copyright infringement on them.
I don't use anything from CMR as they promote copywright infringement and that the parts are not user friendly anyway.

My review of CMR: good
Well, HO is my primary scale and always will be. But, I do N scale as well, in T-Trak. CMR sells custom made modules (singles, doubles, triples, quads, tunnels, etc) the kits go together so well and easy. hardware is optionally provided (customer can decline the Feet. The kits are laser cut, so all that needs done is gluing the tabs together and clamping.
I also recently purchased a shell that no one produces- a H-20-44 for the PWV. Well its a resin cast, so it does need flash cleaned off. But, itz a nice quality shell.
Id order from them again.

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway. As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).
Thanks. I'll order some parts.
I have gotten decals and detail parts from them, very well done on both with very fast and accurate shipping.
I would not hesitate to order from these guys at all.
Just the opinion of a happy customer.

No opinion, just pointing out CMR Products is a different company than CMR Custom Model Railroads, makers of the turntable and mid-Atlantic city buildings. Both come to Timonium.

I just recieved a RS-3 low nose and cab from CMR. Looks pretty good, still cleaning flash. Reasonably fast service on my order.
I was considering ordering a Geep cab from CMR and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with them. Are their products good? Are they good? Thanks.
