I have been using a laptop for some years with no issues. With W10, I have mine set to do upgrades at 2PM local. No issues. I use Ad Block plus again to eliminate ads. I was getting, stop using toilet paper here, one ad that was annoying so I put Ad Block back in.

My Dell laptop ran like a dog when I got it. I had to take the back off completely to get to upgrade the memory - now 16GB and replace the hard disk with a 500GB SSD. The laptop now boots in seconds - Excell takes 2 seconds to load! It is worth doing these upgrades as they don't cost a lot of money and will make you old laptop as good as any new one!

My Amazon fire HD8 works just fine with the forum.

The issues with the forum is a bigger problem for model railroader,

Pete,

Usually by the time you have 5 posts under your belt the admins take you off moderation.  Since you are up to 7 now it shouldn't be too much longer.

Hi Tom.

It's not just windows but Norton, Adobe, and others too. My Lenovo netbook upgraded from NT. It was stable, booted in under a minute and great for what it's intended purpose. I mainly used it for my RC helicopters and drones. Eight hour battery life and a screen you can see outside.

My Toshiba upgraded from win 8.1. both of them take a long time to boot up with Win10. And seems as if there is a lot of stuff running in the background sucking up resources.

I'm still being evaluated by the moderators so I don't know when this will post.

  Pete.

Ever since I was forced to upgrade to win10 I hate my laptop and rarely use it. the constant updates and restarts drives me nuts.

Not a complete surprise, Pete.  If you came to Win 10 from XP or Win 7 then your older computer is needing to go through a substantual upgrade to its infastructure to make everything work properly with Win 10.  As suggested, let your laptop go through its paces and the upgrading will eventually subside to once a week.

Firefox works just fine with either my Android tablet or phone and I have no probelms replying to posts.  The one thing I do not have access to that I do on my Win 10 computers is the Messages and profiles pages.  I get the identical error messages trying to access either one.

When using my Win 10 computer to acccess Messages, I can read my PMs but cannot respond to them.  I have to use the Edge browser to do that.

I have an Android tablet.  The site mostly works OK, but replying can be difficult because of the new extra-annoying ads that pop up on the bottom of the screen.  You can clear those ads with the little x and you can finish your reply unmolested.

Alternately, turn the tablet sideways and do your replies in Portrait mode, not Landscape.  This gives you a bit more space without the ads.

Trainman 440.

Thanks. Desktop site works great. You can teach an old dog.

I have tapatalk app on my tablet, though it is an iPad.  I think tapatalk touts itself as a mobile forum-friendly app.  Maybe check it out, or see if our hosts here have an app.

in the chrome app, there should be something like "open as desktop site" in the options. That should help. This website is coded in an odd, non-mobile(/tablet) friendly fashion. Unfortunate.

Windows 10 first existed in 2015, and there have been tons of updates since then. If you just leave your laptop open and let it update for a few hours, it should eventually catch up to 2020, and the updates should stop(or come few and far between).

Hope this helps,

Charles

Hello.

For some odd reason I can't get the forum to work on an Android  tablet. Either the Chrome app or my favorite Firefox browser. I can read and navigate but writing and replying goes wonky.

   Any Ideas?

Ever since I was forced to upgrade to win10 I hate my laptop and rarely use it. the constant updates and restarts drives me nuts.

  Thanks in advance.
