Getting my vintage pre WWII OO gauge trains up and running after finding the correct track. No, these do not run on British OO track, which is really HO but the trains have a different scale ratio. These have the same ratio but run on correct OO gauge track. Once a popular scale in certian parts of the USA, mostly east coast and spurred on by Lionel and Scale Craft Models. Lionel offered these in both 2 an 3 rail, I am running 2 rail models on 3 rail track using just the outer rails for power. The roadbed is Bakelite with tinplate rails, 2 rail had a Bakelite roadbed with solid steel rails. Enjoy the sounds if not the smell of ozone and hot oil.

Looks good.

Hi Mike,
It is wonderful to see and old train set come back to life, sparks and all!

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Mike,
I can certainly relate to the fun you have with your pre-war OO gauge set! In my 57 yeats in this hobby, I have built quite a number of layouts in different scales, but I never had as much fun as I had olaying with my 1950s/1960s stayle Märklin tinplate HO gauge layout! I just love the noise and the smell of oil and a bit of ozone!
Happy times!

I have an old Tyco switcher with a pancake motor. I bought it when I didn't know any better and I even started to detail it before I learned how crude the thing actually was. I have run it occasionally on my test track just to smell the crap that it spews forth!
There is just something about an seeing and smelling an old toy train run. After a false start with Tyco HO when I was 5 or 6, It was nothing but Lionel O gauge till I joined a local HO club where I live at 16. Then I had both HO and O for many years. After moving out on my own and getting married, it was back into Lionel with a side of G scale(for live steam operation). Its still that way. I have a big of O, a bit more OO then my G scale stuff. Its a great time to be in the hobby IMHO. I really want a prewar scale NYC Hudson, but short of a huge lottery win, thats just a pipe dream, let alone the space to run it. But I can run its baby twin all day long and it was much more affordable. Mike the Aspie
Mike: That is a neat project. Thank you for sharing it.

Living the dream.
For those curious to the size of American OO vs O gauge, here is a pic of my Hudson next to a 2243 postwar F3 thats custom painted. I will get a good HO/OO size pic next.
