Bachmann N Scale E-Z mate II Coupler Compatability
Posted by darrel480 on Saturday, May 9, 2020 12:10 PM

Does anyone know how compatible N Scale E-Z Mate II couplers are with Micro trains and Atlas couplers?  I would like to try an E-Z Mate on the front of my newer MRC 4-6-0 Mogul but all my rolling stock have Micro T and Atlas couplers.  Thanks

I also model in N scale.

I have numerous  Bachmann Spectrum  locomotives which was equiped with EZ couplers.

Since my standard is MT couplers I don't use them in any case and change them with MT couplers

EZ like other clones of the Kaddee and Micro Trains couplers have the color, the form but don't mate well with MT couplers, this recognized by the N scale community.

Sometimes, they work sometimes not, and sometimes they uncouple well sometines not.

So I use standard coupler on my layout which is MT and probably the best N scale coupler available.

Many has been say about the jerking motion in reverse because of the spring of the coupler, but body mounted couplers and cars weighted like  the NMRA specifications minimize this jerking motion, anyway you can live with, the reliability and the quality  of the coupler is far over the disagreament.

The Bachmann coupler is a little bigger than the Magne-Matic. I found it frustrating to try to couple a review locomotive from Bachmann to other cars during testing.

It was especially frustrating because the locomotive ran really well - better than a Kato locomotive we had on the layout - but it didn't want to couple without a bit of persuasion.
