Hello,
I have a new to me Walthers SD60 HO Scale engine. After test running the engine its a little noisy and I am in the process of lubing and oiling. Using the supplied schematic and the very short instructions I have removed the front and rear coupler box and attempted to grasp firmly and gently pull the shell off. No luck!
After resisting the temptation to work harder at pulling I noticed 2 screws behind each coupler box and in front of each truck. Now we have a little more movement but the shell is still resisting, the resistance seems to be more central now on the fuel tank area. There are 2 outer screws and them 2 inner screws here of a smaller size.
Before I end up with a pile of peices has anyone experience on removing the shell of a Walthers SD60?

The 70 Ace's had a few more screws under the trucks next to the gas tank. Hard to tell from the diagram.
Mine doesn't move.......it's at the station!!!
There's a screw right behind each coupler box, and a screw, hidden under the back of each truck, next to the fuel tank, as ho modern modeler says.
The shell might be a little tuff to get started, but it should lift straight up.

Thank you for the advice, I am busy searching for a screwdriver to handle that small a screw. Why would they make it that small?
I will let you know how it goes.

Because large screws are easier to find when they roll off the table.
Got it!
The reason I was doing this was that in some of the curves the engine made a thick sound not quite a click. I will oil and run without the shell for a while
