Ray ... those are some of the photos I remember of the SLOW. As I said, your layout is beautiful. Feel free to post other pictures if you want. You can exclude the picture of a locomotive emerging from a tunnel with spider webs entangled on the front end. LOL . I recall when you built the octagonal building , and your work on it was outstanding. It looks great in the photo.

You are correct. Dianne is my wife and she celebrated her birthday today (May 15th). Mine was on the 14th.
We had a couple of great days of bird watching on our birthdays right in our backyard. Five orioles arrived on Wednesday and are sticking around. The first couple of hummingbirds showed up Friday morning. They were female and I was under the impression that the males come first to establish territories and then the females follow. Could be wrong, or the males are hiding. We also had a rose breasted grosbeak as well as the usual 30 or so gold finches, some house finches, purple finches, downey and hairy woodpeckers, white crowned sparrows, American tree sparrows, cardinals, robins and doves. That was all within 1/2 hour. Later we went for a drive to some ponds in the area and saw precisely one mallard in two hours! Should have stayed home!!

gmpullmanOne thing I don't care for when making Masonite control panels is how a drilled hole gets all fuzzy.

I used a brad point drill bit when I did my old club's control panels and it worked quite well. I didn't bother drilling from both sides so there was some breakout. I'll have to try that next time.
Thanks for the suggestion about using wall board for the control panels. I know that HD sells the imitation tile stuff but I'm not sure about the smooth stuff.

Since Steven has locked the Covid-19 thread, I will mention here that the disease isn't very far away from us. We learned today that a relative of my sister-in-law passed away two weeks ago from Covid-19. He was 61, healthy, active and just retired. This stuff is nasty!!!
Good morning. It was 87 and humid yesterday, just 1 week after frost warnings. Doesn't everyone say: "if you don't like the weather in (wherever you live) just wait a day"?Put my motorcycle up for sale and it was sold in 15 minutes. That means I could have gotten more, but I want it gone, I don't want haggle, put new tires on it or anything else. I have another in parts that I am giving to a friend, just so he will take it away.
I had been waking up at night,worried about how I was going t get rid of the later. Last night I woke up worrying about where the keys were.
Bought some styrofoam peanuts so I can finish packing the rest of my buildings.

61F and scattered clouds today. It bucketed down last night though. I enjoy listening to the rain on the roof at night. Very relaxing. Just a to go for this morning please Chloe.
Back in the shop to work on the generator set some more. Like anything scratch built it is a lot of measure twice, cut once.
For my fascia, I have used some plastic cored sheet called Max Metal that has two thin aluminum sheets one laminated to each side. I like that stuff a lot. It comes in 1/8" or 1/4" thick sheets of 4 x 8 or 5 x 10 is fairly light weight and can be drilled, tapped, and cut easily. It can be cut through with a matting knife or sawn or sheared. You can make holes with just about anything including an X-Acto knife. I cut large holes with a hole saw. In 1/8" it can be gently bent or cut and bent in segments (what I call lobster back). Commonly used at sign shops, if you go to one I'd bet you could get some off cuts to play with or maybe even enough to do your control panels. Comes in painted white and colors. Just a thought. Oh, those first world problems. We had an impromptu socially distanced happy hour last night. It was so pleasant out we didn't break up until 7:30. We started calling for carry out, but discovered they were mostly done for the night. At 7:30? Well, I suppose it's the new normal this week, anyway. We did find a place open, and got food, but it took a while.
Officially, we broke up into the On The Street Happy Hour and the On the Sidewalk Happy Hour, because there were more than 10 people. One guy claimed to be the In the Gutter Happy Hour.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Is that an x BN locomotive that GO rail took and tweaked for their purposes? Or was that the paint scheme GO rail ordered with the locomotive.
I'm beginning to realize that Windows 10 and sound decoders have a lot in common. There are so many things you have to change in order to get them to work the way you want.

Weather - Sunny and 74°F today!
Birds - Hummers are back, as were the Orioles, but like every other year, the Orioles were gone in about 24 hours. (Neighbors have better flowers apparently...) We must have a few different hummer families though, as both feeders are only lasting about 2 days each.
W*^k - Got approved for unemployment, at very close to full pay per week. I have a feeling I will not be returning, as I have been replaced. Oh well. Something better will come along anyways.
Trains - Finally finished a sound install in a Atlas C424, and when i placed it on the temporary layout, she ran wonderfully, up until I tried to stop her... Seems I accidentally programmed the deceleration level at max.... OOPS! A short reprogramming later, and all was well. Up until I added a second locomotive... Somehow the DCC system reacted by reprogramming everything on the rails to a new unknown address.... ?
I walked away for lunch at that point, afraid of what I might accidentally do next...
Still finishing a few other small projects as well. I am currently doing a hopper car project, as well as superdetailing a loco shell as much as possible prior to painting and decaling it. (Plow, all the grab irons that do not interfere with masking or decaling, installing ditchlights that I will wire in later when the decoder is installed, etc...)
Covid - There has been a second positive case in my hometown, and a local resturant/bakery has been breaking the no dine-in policy currently in effect. The owner has been informed that they will be losing their food service license if she continues, and then if she doesn't obey that they will fine $10,000 per day she still operates after the license gets pulled. They are unsure if the two are related, but when the local media reported on it, the only individual who was complying with both mask and social distancing rules was the reporter...
Somehow, I have not had to refill my cars gas tank in the last three weeks though!

GO has been using that green/white color emblem since inception, I believe. Their first locomotives were delivered in dark blue with white cabs, IIRC.

Dirk Pip Seems it hurt is left front leg and is limp. I have checked is front paws 3 times and have not found anything stuck in or between the pads. May be land wrong jumping out of the car or off his lawn chair. If he is still limping Monday off to the Vet we go!

Hmmmmm..... Last Time I put gas in a car was 10 weeks ago. Would have been a few weeks more than that but I had to use Fossilized Dinosaur Dung to drive to Mt. Kisco to pick up the Tesla. Don't miss visiting the gas station at all!
I still get Gas Points at the Grocery Store which, when I have $25 worth I get a $25 gas card for free and give that to my son who still does have to visit gas stations......

So, just as an update to the DCC issue - I've resorted to firing up DecoderPro, and using it to reprogram the correct address to the units involved... Seems that I somehow programmed every loco on the temporary layout to address 7087.... I didn't program anything with that address, as I have nothing with that road number......
As Spock would say - "Facinating."
Ken - My dog (Dozer, a Golden Retriever) will sometimes do just that, land wrong and hurt himself. Almost like a pulled/strained muscle or something.
He usually walks it off in about a day or two.
Other times, he acts like he "slept wrong" and his leg fell asleep due to him cutting off circulation for a short time. He will limp like crazy, for a few minutes, then be just fine, running and jumping while playing.

I found it was always helpful to have a cutsey nickname for my wife (or girlfriend) to avoid the fatal error of calling her by the wrong name It could happen!

That happened to me one time, Rick. Still can't figure out how I did it, either.
I was "programming on the main", #6200, the PRR Turbine. Everything went fine with that but the next time I ran the layout there was a bunch of engines that would not respond.
When I put them on the program track and used "identify" some whacky number came up. Let's say 7256 or something. Over half the engines on the layout got programmed to this number !!! Mind you, I'm talking about fifty out of a hundred engines! Ouch.
Sometimes in an A-B-B-A set of F units only two out of the four got reprogrammed . For the next six months I would still occasionally find an unresponsive engine that I hadn't run in a while. Sure enough, it would have address 7256!
Still scratching my head over that one.

A very nice day here with sun and about 70 F.
Garry, I did an actual count of the TP and we have 201 rolls!
Yesterday was a major bird day for us as a red headed woodpecker visited at least 4 times. First time ever for our yard and a rare siting for our area. We got some great photos. If it werent for the suet log I doubt it would have come. Same for the piliated visits. Said log is a 2 foot leength of tree branch about 6 inches in diameter with 1 inch holes into which we stuff suet. It hangs from a shepherds hook via a hook screwed in one end. It is a woodpecker magnet as we have downies and hairies plus nuthatches every day.
Oh, we also had a few orioles, many goldfinches, white throated sparrows, lincoln sparrows, white crown sparrows and fox spaarrows. Sometimes there were 4 or 5 ar at a time bathing in the pond. We made a gravel beach to make it easier for them.
Not much planned for today. Too early to plant anything here. Think I ll change the other low beam as the new one is a lot brighter and I like both sides to match.

I just found out that I need to be in Indianapolis at the end of June. I have not travelled since I stopped working in February.
My plan will be to take some "Hobby-Shopping-Me-Time" on the way back and hit a couple of shops in the North End of Ohio that I have never been to.
Travelling will be a lot different this time because I want to limit exposure. Drive throughs instead of sit downs, and probably very few local dives.
No flea markets that are always so much fun out of state.
Maybe Antique Malls will be OK for visits. These were never very crowded.

Wow, I'm jealous, Charlie! In all my years of bird feeding/watching, I've only seen a red-headed woodpecker twice.

Our grocery store used to sell lard at a reasonable price. I would mix it with chunky peanut butter and add some sunflower seeds and fill my "suet logs" with it. The birds loved it.
Then the store was taken over by the corporate types and now what little lard they sell is about $4/lb. ! We keep all the real suet from when we buy sides of beef. Huge chunks, I tie it up in mesh bags and the birds love it.
It's been over a week since we've heard from TF. Hope he's OK. His icon came up in the "Users Online" section but that isn't always accurate.
