Bowser steam locomotives?
Posted by dknelson on Sunday, April 26, 2020 11:46 AM

This is not a complaint about the popup ads on this site, but lately Bowser has been showing a pop up ad on this site that advertises their steam locomotives, with a nice color photo of one of their metal Pennsylvania RR steamers.  You are told to click on their link to purchase. But their website, as it has for some years, has a list of their discontinued steam locomotives (of which they had many).  I see none for sale, including the one in the photo.

Is this just baiting us to go to the site (which I go to often enough anyway), or are they trying to make an announcement here?  I am in need of some parts, which is why I am curious.  Given the wonderful stuff they DO have for sale, it seems like a curious form of advertising to me.

It could be a mistake, unless they're developing something new.  According to Nick from Hobbytown, Bowser scrapped all the metal kit tooling a few years ago (he was apparently looking into buying it around the time he restarted Hobbytown).

A shame, I got an A5s kit from Ebay, and greatly enjoyed putting it together.

Bowser had a fire sale starting 4/13 and there were some boilers, tenders and partly complete steam for sale.  I don't know is the sale is over and it can only be seen on their Facebook page.

A friend gave me a kit for an A-5, complete with the super-detailing parts, and I built it (and added DCC) for another friend...

I do know where there are a couple of Bowser Challenger kits for sale, though. Whistling

Wowza, a beauty!

I apologize for being off topic, but...

Is there a build thread on the process you took? While my engine is completely built up, I noticed that the engineer's side running board on mine is flat, and that wasen't common on A-5s. Did you cut yours up to get it to go up and around like that?

Thanks for your kind words, Charles.

There's a thread HERE which shows pictures of the build, with some commentary, and it includes a link, in the first post, to a step-by-step of the same loco, done by another modeller.

I found out about the sale after it was over Sad  It was on the afternoon of the 13th.
