Who are you rooting for in week 2 of the playoffs?
Posted by n2mopac on Monday, January 10, 2005 10:38 AM
Well, my week 1 success was .500, much better than last year. I'm still rooting for the Rams, though I don't hold out much hope against Atlanta. My other hopefuls this weekend the Colts (love that Paton Manning) and the Steelers (Bill Cower is quite the character, isn't he?). As for Minnesota v. Philadelphia, normally I root for anyone who is playing Philadelphia, but I NORMALLY have not feelings one way or the other for the Vikings. After Randy Moss' behavior the past couple of weeks, however . . . is it possible to hope they both lose? [:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

Well, this should be a fun discussion this week.

well, its not that I hate football (actually I love it), but after Randy Moss's little stunt (the "mooning" routine) I decided that I'm not watching any more pro football this season. if the NFL won't take the time to rein in knuckleheads like Moss and Owens, then I won't waste MY time by watching!

Besides, now that it's finally snowing hereabouts, it's time to hit the slopes!

Pittsburgh, baby!!![bow] Jets are toast. Pennington will cry about the press again, and the Chin will win it all in '05....if we beat the Colts (who will beat New England).

Pittsburgh should have an easy week. New England vs Indy will be tough, but New England will pull it out again. Eagles should win, and who cares on the other two teams. Rams to up and down, and its the Falcons

Actually, I'm voting for the Germans and the Austrians, I think they have a pretty good chance of beating Napoleon this time at Austerlitz--assuming their cannon still work. [%-)] Oh, you mean FOOTBALL!

I voted for the Colts, but also the Steelers, and the Rams. Since my team, the Redskins, didn't make it; I'm just enjoying watching that scoring machine called the Colts.
Enjoy

Ron, thanks for including the none of the above option. I voted for the Vikings again, though.

The reason I have been so down on my home town team dates back six years to their last second loss in the NFC championship to Atlanta. I was crushed, and swore NEVER AGAIN!!!

Yesterday they managed to play their game of roll up the score and hang on. Of course 4 interceptions didn't hurt.

Farve is a first round choice for the hall of fame, but he is not getting any younger. Between his family problems, and some of the nagging injuries, I don't expect him to last more than a couple of years. I don't expect Green Bay to be as strong as they were this year.

I also think that the Fox announcers need to grow up. Their sense of outrage and political correctness was actually more repulsive than Moss' "mooning" taunt. A simple case of dumb and dumber. Moss was dumb, but the announcers were dumber. Hell, the refs didn't even throw a flag. Grow up boys!!!

On the other hand, football is entertainment, nothing more. The "moon" walk was a huge boost for Viking fans, and a great big "up your's" to Packer fans, and really no different from any end zone dance. Randy Moss gets paid to entertain us, and that he does, shocking as it may be sometimes.

The Vikings owe the Eagles some payback from the early part of the season, just like they owed the Packers. Let's see if they can GET SOME!!!![swg]

Well, Nancy is originally from the Pittsburgh area. And since I converted her from a Penn State fan to
a Gator fan, I guess I'll be pulling for the Steelers this weekend. It's all about compromise [B)][:D]. Dave

I'm not sure where on the internet Big Girl found this, but the mooning seems to be a long running thing between Packer fans and the Vikings. An inside joke as it was. The Fox announcers didn't get it. For that matter neither did anyone else outside of Green Bay.

QUOTE: Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy said he saw Moss' action and, "I thought it was kind of humorous."

"It's not the kind of thing you want to see on national TV, but I understand what it was all about," he said.

"Anyone who has played in the NFC Central knows what that's about. The fans in Green Bay have a tradition in the parking lot after the game where they moon the visiting team's bus," he said. "It's kind of a unique send-off."

"I had seen it seven times because when I was with the Vikings, we lost to them seven times up there," he said.

I suspect that given the amount of beer in the fans after the game, many really do pull their pants down.[swg]

Actually, we're calling them the Washington Nationals, at least this year. When they are sold, the new owner may change the name.

Hey Big Boy, I have been down on the vikings since I lost betting on them in 4 superbowls. I was a huge purple people eater, they haven't done that in years, and yes, after 1, 2,3, I still bet on them. But now, I always root for them during the season, and then hope they get trounced during the playoffs. They won't break this heart again.

AFC rules guys. About time.

NFC for way to many years.

And the Washington whatevers may not even play in washington, they can't decide on the stadium funding or some garbage like that. Hmmm maybe montreal was better off staying in puerto rico ??

We can moon crowds, but can't celebrate in the end zones. Go Manning and the Colts-3rd time's a charm in Foxboro. Rams-win it too. Indy/St Louis in the Superbowl. What a pair.

I don't want to start an argument here, but I must respectfully disagree. I think Randy Moss deserves all the bad press he gets and more right now. The fact is stunts like Sunday's make all of football look bad. The League, the coaches, most of the other palyers, they all hate it. And entertainment, yes, but Sunday afternoon entertainment, not late night. My young kids watch football with me, and they do not need to see obscene behavior like that. I think Joe Buck and later Chris Berman and many others were right to be offended and to say so. If I were the Vik's owner I would fine him every penny he made for that game for making my organization look stupid.

Go Vikes. I cannot support Moss and his endzone mooning, but it is an ongoing thing between Packer fans and the visiting team. I bet there were a lot of NFL players who lost at Lambeau over the past years and suffered the parking lot mooning who wi***hey could have done the same.

I don't give the Vikings much of a chance in Philly, but then I didn't give them much of a chance in Green Bay either.

By the way, there is nothing better while working on the railroad than having a good football or baseball game on the radio.

The Red Sox, the Patriots, and I'm pretty sure the Bruins won't lose another game this season, either. Any team with a linebacker named Bruschi (pronounced brewski) is all right in my book. And they're at their best when ice-cold, too. Go Pats!

Hate to break it to you Ron, but Red McCombs was shown on camera hugging Randy Moss after the game. If any sanctions are going to come from this, they will be from the league, and relatively minor.

Randy likes the publicity, and doesn't care if it is negative or contraversial. He openly admitted as much in a post game interview. His behavior in the past has been much more rude than this display. This was nothing compared to last year's Super Bowl incident.

I haven't spoken to my 12 year old son since the game. I suspect he was watching, and ended jumping up and down cheering , then fell down rolling on the floor laughing. 12 year old boys like that kind of potty humor. The truth is that we can't completely stop our kids from being exposed to bad influences. Somewhere some kid is going to do a Randy Moss impersonation.

If you want to talk about bad behavior, it was just on the local news that 47 Packer fans were ejected from the game, and 16 arrested. Of course that wasn't shown on the screen.

When it comes to "obscene", there is a big difference between pretending to drop one's pants and actually doing it.

The endzone show by Moss just shows that he has no brain in his head, and has no respect for anything. That's all. (Just another great role model for all the young black boys that live in the cities of my state like Newark, Camden, and Jersey City, to continue to believe that selling crack, dribbling a ball, and acting like a gangbanger is their ticket in life ["working hard in school is for white boys"]).

What makes Moss the biggest j.o. in football is other things. Life his post game comments after the Giants blew out the Vikings 41 - 0 in the 2000(?) NFC Championship game .... that he and Culpepper are great players, but the rest of the Vikings stink.

There's plenty of teams (owners and/or coaches) that would never have anything to do with garbage like Moss. I used to like the Vikings ..... black and blue division, purple people eaters, "meet at the quarterback," .... all that.

Maybe playing in a dome makes you like a girl. For sure the Vikings ownership and Mike Tice lack the cojones to deal with him.

While we're at it, what do you think will be the best game to watch this weekend? I am most looking forward to the Colts v. Pats game. This chould be a real struggle and a close game.

For all of you, like me, rooting for the Rams, we have to remember they were 8-8 on the regulare season. I know anything CAN happen, but do they really deserve the Super Bowl and what are their chances? Personally, while I am a fan, I think it will take a miracle to get past Atlanta this weekend.

Similar situation for Minnesota. I fear that Philly will be just too strong for them. And I say that as no Philly fan. I have nothing personally against the Eagles, but the long time earned reputation of the fans (batteries, iceballs, need I say more?) makes it hard for me to root for them. I put them in a league with baseball's Yankee fans (don't get me started there).

Jets v. Steelers--well, I havn't seen the Jets much this year, but can anyone in the AFC beat the Steelers right now? It remains to be seen. the Jets have their work cut out for them to say the least.

So, which game do you look forward to most this weekend?

Well, as I might have intimated before, unless there's a suspension, and I kind of doubt there will be, I'm done till at least next September. Big_Boy was right about the attention thing, so I'm not playing that game any more!

besides, got too many books waiting to be read!

My money is on the South Willow Springs Flume Runners. Yes, a rather excellent group of individuals. They are good with a buck saw, a double bitted axe and some can even run a chain saw now. Hard bunch to beat. And to top it all off, they even drink mead. What a group, what a group.
