Inserting Video
Posted by maxman on Monday, April 6, 2020 7:30 PM

Tried the following from another thread:

Here is how I do it:

1. Start your post on the forums and put in whatever text you want to introduce the video.

2. Open a second browser window and go to your YouTube video.

3. Start playing the video.

4. Right click over the video. You will get a menu the top item of which will say "Copy Video URL". Click on that.

5. Go back to your post in the first browser window.

6. Make sure your cursor is positioned where you want the video to appear and then click on the icon in the header bar that looks like a piece of movie film.

7. You will get a pop up window. Put your cursor in the top slot and right click your mouse.

8. Click on 'Paste' in the window and the URL address will show up. Then click on 'OK'.

Does not work for me.  I get as far as the pop up box but it seems to want source information.  What am I doing incorrectly?

Thanks

I highlight the address, and copy, go to post, click on the video icon, paste, and click "Submit Post", and the videoo is there.

That's all I've ever done. Half the time I just paste the link, then you cna open it in another window. But I have clicked the Insert Video and pasted th video URL there and it worked fine.

It may only work with certain video sites, mine are always from Youtube. Doesn't seem to require a URL that ends with a valid video file extension like posting a picture does - Youtube links certainly don't have such things.

Well, let's see:

I think that worked.

Thanks!

I've never tried anything but youtube vids.  The Share link in Youtube, does show the video in the forum, only the link.

That´s where you paste the URL of the video into.

I just post the URL that shows when watching the video - and if you use the Insert Video option, it absolutely does show the video and not a link. I'm just lazy and often just post the link right in a message without using the insert video option, then it DOES just show a link.

For example, here's one of mine, just pasting the link:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wL8uLUodLFQ

And with the insert video option:

Works either way, one uses an embedded player, the other takes you to the site and you can use whatever size and quality setting you want.

hmmmphf   I swear I could not get the share to embed a year ago.  Maybe that was something that changed when Batman got locked out of the forum and the ads appeared.

I tried to test first in the test forum and nothing at all happened there when I click the video icon there.
