I never checked into that. That shows you how much I run it!
When I seen what the coupler looked like, I figured it was a Bachmann thing. I'll have to check and see what Kadee has.

PS. I checked the Kadee site. The original coupler is a draw bar that clips into each passenger car.
To replace that draw bar, and use couplers, I need #118, and #454. which can be bought as a set, along with 2 pages of instructions.
Lots of cutting, drilling and fitting. I think I'll see if I can find the draw bars. I don't want to cut anything, as I might just sell these. Not sure.
Here's the Bachmann part I need. I'll probably go this way.

mbinsewi Wow, I just checked out I had on Ebay. I forget what I paid, I'd have to dig through the receipts. I bought the loco and the cars, all seperate, it wasn't a set. I have to go the Bachmann site and see if I can get couplers, one car is missing one. Mike.

Wouldn't just be better to upgrade to Kadees?
Just have to watch - they rarely sell for the inflated prices. Anyone can put up an auction with a BiN price, but the thing to check is completed listengs - see what they really sell for. Only thing is you can;t see what was paid on a "best offer", but when it was listed at full MSRP and best offier was accepted, I can only think the buyer offered less.

I've seen photos of when Bachmann offered that as part of a set, i think it was called the Noreaster or something like that. Wish i grabbed it when i had the chance. I do have their Acela though so yay go me i guess.
Just when you think you've seen enough nuts on ebay - holy cow, selling the HHP-8s for MORE than original MSRP AND THEY ARE BROKEN. Seems everyone manages to break one or both pantographs on them.
Obvious someone is buying them for those prices, or they wouldn't put them so high. However it seems they go for MSRP or less when viewing the completed items. The $150+ sellers are dreaming.
Its a shame if modern passenger travel is in decline in the US. Im just glad i picked my Atlas ALP45DP and multilevels when they were still in stock.

This is not my era, but I have to think that despite what Rapido has produced, modern passenger travel is in the decline in the US and that influences what people choose to model. In other words, the demand probably isn't there to justify new tooling and a new run by another manufacturer.

There's no particular reason, i'm just not keen on paying triple digits for a locomotive from a secondhand dealer. Just more of a personal preference i guess.
I'm inclined to think that the Spectrum version is the only model of this locomotive available. Is there any particular reason you may not want the Spectrum version? Or, do just prefer something that hasn't been run before? If that's the case, if you keep looking there's a good chance that you might be able to find a new old stock unit out there. I've bought many a second hand locomotive that was new old stock, and they all run great.
I know Bachmann had a Spectrum version back in the mid 2000's but those are available via the second hand market these days. Im honestly surprised no one else makes these locomotives, either in Amtrak or MARC livery.
