Our stores here are pretty normal.  No huge crowds, and the shelves are full.  I got a couple of great rib-eyes yesterday for dinner, and a big pork butt, now being smoked, for tonight.

We have 1 case in all of Delaware, two counties north.  So of course, schools are closed and the Dogfish Brewery has closed all its restaurants.  We are trying to keep supporting our favorite bars and restaurants, but we can only do that if they stay open.  Grocery stores are competing by saying "We have toilet paper."

My wife just commented that she's starting to go nuts -- we haven't seen the sun in quite a few days.  I think we may get some sunlight tomorrow, but I'm not sure the snow will melt for a while.

Time to clean the train room.

Me too! I haven´t had a decent bite of meat in ages! Beef is way too expensive for us!

Germany has closed most of the borders now, so we start into a life of splendid isolation, at least for the next few weeks. The measure was established to prevent people from other countries to buy the last roll of toilet paper available in this country, not to keep any uninvited guests outside.

Happy times!

The CN got all of it's problems in Stevens Point fixed, and trains are moving.  Really busy today!  One train after another.  The scanner has not been quiet!

Surprise!  We did get sun this afternoon!  I went out and got my welding done...well...most if it...Sigh....guess who forgot to buy welding rods on my last trip out.

WI schools are closed till about April 6th or so. They have things figured out for doing the school work on line.  Spectrum, the local internet provider has supplied free high speed internet to those schools and students that are in need.

I see tstage is on, according to the "Users online", be nice if he stopped in and said hello.  Haven't seen him in a while, along with a couple of others.

Mike.

PS. TF, what railroad uses that bridge?  BNSF?  Just curious.

Greetings form the shores of Western KY.

Not much going on here today, I do notice that ther is way less traffic going by the house. all schools have closed for 2 to 3 weeks. We stokced up on some food yesterday. I think the stores are returning somewhat to normal. I go on call at work starting tomorrow, ( at the Hospital) So far not much has changed, we have put policies in place that limit visitors etc, we already had infection control policies in place way beofre this type of stuff. We have to wear gloves if we go into a clinical setting to work on anything now. we hope all of this is for naught but like the boy scouts we are prepared.

I don't need to think back very far. It was 90 degrees yesterday and clear blue sunny skies.

The national news said yesterday that the return of warm weather will fight the spread of the virus. I would not count on that. We left winter behind weeks ago, and the virus is spreading rapidly down here. Had another death yesterday and several more cases.

My son's suitcases are in quarantine and we are disinfecting them, who knows how many germy bags those baggage handlers have touched.

This brings up a question I have not been able to find an answer to.

What are the chances this virus could sneak into my house on a package of something I ordered from eBay. I don't want my death to arrive via brass locomotive. That would really suck.

Should we be "quarantining" all incoming mail and parcels? If so, for how long?

I think that there is still some debate about how long the virus can last on a surface. Quarantining them would be the safest way to go, but you still have to handle the packages to get them into quarantine. Twenty seconds with soap and water after handling them will deal with that risk. Just don't touch your face before you wash your hands.

You can look up how long viruses live on different materials and go from there adding a little padding for your own comfort. Some things you can just put in the microwave and that'll take care of the little bast...s. Laugh

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and Dirk half a dog treat.

Far as traffic it still seems the normal vevel here in Maryville ILL. What was strange was the local Malmart Market Places was lacking some iteams. They still had some high end meats, but no hambuger. Not a single egg (you can thank my wife for that, we have 3 dozen) and no milk. Vegetable isle was pretty empty. Only thing I went for and could not find was Spam. Not a single can?

Later, Ken and Dirk say's Woof, Woof!

The problem is that I have looked this up on a few sites from different goverments, and everything disagrees, and no one really seems to know how long it can last outside of a host environment.

I think all incoming mail will be put in a box in the garage for at least five days. That will be the padding for my comfort.

. . .I think all incoming mail will be put in a box in the garage for at least five days. . .

I have already been quarantining nearly all of my incoming mail for years in a big blue barrel on the side of my house.

If you are interested, the NYT has an interesting page that updates multiple time per day with the current virus counts and locations. For me, the most worrisome component is the number is increasing at an increasing rate. As long as this is occuring, comparison to other maladies is unreliable at best.

Hi Kevin,

Some may say that you are overreacting but I disagree. Better to be safe than sorry. We have put a large hand santizer dispenser right beside our front door and we are both carrying pocket sized dispensers, plus we have extras in the car.

One word of caution about the sanitizers - don't wipe it off on your clothes! It will mess with the colours. Our son used alcohol based facial cleansers by the gallon when he lived here. He would invariably wipe the excess off on the towels. We still have several towels with blotchy stains on them.

I have to really focus on not wiping my hands on my jeans after using the sanitizer. What else are jeans for for Pete's sake?Smile, Wink & GrinLaughLaughLaugh

My wife raised an interesting question this afternoon. Given that there are so many people around the world in quarantine, what are we going to call the resulting explosion of babies? After all, Monopoly can only maintain your interest for so long!Smile, Wink & GrinLaughLaughLaugh

Good evening all.

Well, I see the food service is not shut down in the diner, so I will take a slice of apple pie, of course with a generous scoop (or two) of vanilla ice cream, and a coke please. Thanks Flo.

Covid - With the asthma, it would be bad if I got it, so I will not complain about the lack of stuff to do, see and watch. All our religious meetings are cancelled through at least the next few weeks, with larger meetings cancelled through at least May 1st. No NASCAR, MLB, NBA (not that I watched it), NHL (same as NBA), PGA (same), F1 or INDYCAR to watch or attend, schools are closed for a minimum of 2 weeks, and stores are sold out of sanitizer, cleaning wipes, Lysol, TP, Peanut Butter, meat, Cheerios, and numerous other products.

A lot of restaurants have closed, and remaining open ones are ghost towns. Traffic is really down in the area as well. Libraries, museums, state parks, and the like are all closed.

There is talk that if the virus spread is not slowed, the state may shut down most w*^kplaces.

If this all helps keep people from getting the virus, then so be it.

There have been confirmed cases in the state, but none in my county of PA as of yet. The current total in the state is 63, with around 180 more test results pending. Close to 200 tests have come back negative. It is however not far away, with a presumed case just over the state line from me, and a few more just beyond that.

I have been placing mail in a holding area, have a bottle of sanitizer in my car, and in the w*^k car I use the most.

I have a freezer full of meat, enough TP and paper towels, and plenty of canned food to last a quarantine if need be. I will run out of milk, but oh well.

Ed (GMPullman) - I had already planned on NOT attending Railfest due to the virus issue, before they cancelled it. I'm kinda glad they did, even if others are upset.

W*^k - Still have to go so far, but if it slows down much more, we may be getting time off. Ran out of stuff to clean on Friday.

Trains - Caught a couple locals of late, and have been working on a couple of models this weekend. Need to finish the hopper kit, and need to touch up paint on the assembled roadrailer kit. (Some idiot messed up the roof during assembly process.....)

I'm kinda saving something for if things start closing down and I am stuck at home for a while, but I have several kits available to assemble, so I'm good.

Hope all are well, and all enjoy enjoy the night!

I recall some years ago that happened to, IIRC a BNSF, trainee. She was wearing a backpack and it caught something while she was dismounting a moving engine.

Those hi-vis safety vests and radio harnesses have Velcro straps for a reason.
