Looking for a pair of Budd RDC's?
Posted by steve-in-kville on Monday, February 24, 2020 1:02 PM

I am starting a small shelf display. I am looking for a pair of Budd cars at a reasonable price, HO or larger, perhaps O? There out there but way above my pricepoint. Any ideas?

EBay and look for the P1K ones. Probably the best before Rapido came out with theirs. There are many under $50. If that's too much, you MIGHT get some old Athearn ones for less, but not much, and they have an awful rubber band drive AND they are too short.

If you're on a budget and want something better than the old Athearns, I'm pretty sure Randy's pointing out that your only option are the old Proto RDCs in HO, which come in several versions to suit your passengers' needs, is accurate.

The Proto RDC is a smooth runner and easy to work on.

If I was a big RDC fan, I'd still start saving for a Rapido RDC, which puts just about all other models to shame from what I hear.

I really don't care how they run, as most likely they never will be ran. This is a shelf or cabinet display.

Then if the too-short nature of the Athearns doesn't put you off, that's the cheapest way to go in any scale.

Dont forget the old ATT ones.  They can be had for cheap on ebay.  They had an unpowered version too
