This week I have the most amazing thing to share with everyone.

Track Fiddler sent me a layout-ready assembled Campbell Scale Models craftsman kit.

I really wish I would have made a video of me unboxing this gift. The packaging job was a work of craftsmanship that was a wonder to behold. There was no way this structure was getting damaged in transit to Florida.

This is just beautiful. I set up the 30 by 30 diorama board and took a few pictures.

 

It sure photographs well. I think we will be seeing a lot of this beauty in Show Me Something for a while

I also received two more brass tank cars. I need to get to painting the tank car fleet now. I believe the collecting phase of the tank cars is over and it is time to get into serious production.

Well, I never know from one week to the next what is going to motivate me 

This Walthers New River mine has been collecting dust on the layout since I built it in 1996. Ever since I told myself, I'll get around to adding details and lighting — someday.

So, inspired by a recent thread here, I decided to dig in to some added details, beginning with improved leg bracing over what was provided with the kit:

Good morning.

Kevin,  I'm glad to see the model made it all the way to Florida in one piece.

You sure did a great job on your diorama setting and I think you may be a little better with a camera than I am.

It was just my way to say thank you for your kind generosity.  I have always enjoyed my Stratton and Gillette safety freight car that you made for me.  Hopefully I'll have a proper setting to better display it soon.

 

I have showed it off to many and always have appreciated your gift.

A finished and prototypical open air car for the New Hope and Ivyland, built on a bethlehem car works car frame and sides. The kit did not have the round roof so I decided to make one rather than order one, just to see if I could. As far as I could tell in research it only had the western lettering and an unlettered paint scheme.

Great WPF so far this week!

Recently I have been building printable paper models. I started building a 1/400 scale airport, but soon I recalled seeing paper model railroad structures availible online so I did some searching, and found Team Track Models, who have a loading dock kit availible for free (see this link).

I built the loading dock in N scale, though I'll admit I didn't really like the methods Team Track describes for building it, so I just built it my own way, using just regular old paper and white glue in place of the recommended poster board, cardstock and CA or whatever the instructions called for (I didn't exactly read them thoroughly!).

Once I finished the model I took it outside for a photo shoot! Here's the result:

Considering the fact that this is the first time I've done an outdoor photoshoot of my trains, I think it turned out pretty well!

Thanks for starting us out this week Kevin, nice acquisition and a couple of tank cars to paint.

James, your layout is coming along just fine it really looks good.

Ed, soon as your done with the mine, you can come over to our club and install the lighting in our mine.

Casey that car turned out great, another example of your fine modeling.

Issac, that loading dock and car look good.

Thanks for all the nice comments last week, also good passenger consists by Garry and all the rest of the contributors last week.

 

Built an Athearn ACF 2970CF Covered Hopper kit, painted with Scalecoat II UP Covered Hopper Gray Paint and lettered with Herald King Decals.  The NP purchased several hundred for cement service, but they migrated into Bentonite Clay loading (Drilling Mud & Kitty Litter) and silica sand for glass manufacturing. I don't know how many of this car that I painted over the years. I would finish one and put it on the hobby shop layout, and it would get sold, then I did more and more and the same thing happened.

 

Next is an Intermountain 40'PS1 Boxcar kit with a 7' Door, painted with Scalecoat II Reefer Yellow and lettered with Decals from the Ann Arbor Historical Society.  The Packers Football consists of 3 overlapping decals. The GBW acquired 42 ex New Haven boxcars in 1962 after their 15 year lease expired.  A lot of other railroads got some of these cars like the ACY etc. Used for hauling paper products via the Ann Arbor to points east.

Pair of Kato SD45's that I painted for the PC and are hauling a mixed consist of Covered Hoppers lettered for the NYC, PRR and PC.

Another great set of photos.  Every week I am amazed and encouraged by all of you and your skill and talent.

This was my first attempt at scratch building an N Scale station.  I still have to plug up some light leaking around the roof.  The City of Los Angeles is waiting for me to add some people to the scene.

Great looking train station John,  it appears they turned the lights on at dusk on your layout.

 

 

What a surprise tonight.  It's another Stratton and Gillette original and I have to say I'm really pleased with it. 

I now have sisters up here in the Northland!  I couldn't just post another picture of this great looking car alone.

I have no scenery done on my layout yet.  I put together a tall timber pine setting typical of northern Minnesota to better stage this one of a kind Wagon Top box car.

The one on the right was delivered tonight.

Isn't She Sweet!!!

I am so glad they had different numbers on them! I don't mix up the numbers in the interchange fleet. I have made about a dozen numbered 60031.

It is the only round top SGRR boxcar in existence.

Happy weekend,all!

Great to see everyone's really good stuff,and good to see The Bear stopping in.

I'm still adding loads to some of the gon's,and nicking them up a bit with a dremel to give them more of an "in service" look(upper right side of pic):

The passenger cars are getting function decoders with keep-alives(factory installed LED board is nice,but flickers a lot when moving). Also some passengers.Picked up a near-new MMI K-36 #481,too.

The boiler and cylinders are now black,the LED's are in for the headlight,class lights,and # boards - still need to install cab light and firebox flicker. New Mashima motor arrived in mail a few days ago.Tsunami 2 and 1.77" speaker will go in tender,with separate 4 function decoder in boiler to handle the lights.The MV Products lenses are getting hard to find:

Kevin, Thanks for opening the WPF with some really nice shots, that Campbell kit is a model I can't stop lookin' at, and that it shipped unscathed certainly is a testament to TF's skillfulness.

Isaac, Your loading dock is swell, looks like one that sits on the UP line not far from my home. 

Lovin' the WPF, and there's extra fun when the Bear pops in.

I haven't posted  in a while, But I just finished decaling 3 of the Model Die Casting 30 foot flat/ gondola's. 

There's a bit of "Pre- weathering" on these part's , so don't be alarmed at the light staining on the car end's. There is a reason for it.

And, I decided to build yet another work train water tender soooo...

Let's see if I can actually keep this one ....... NOT FOR SALE !!!!!!

Good morning.

Thanks for all the compliments on the Campbell kit.  I found it at the Menards train show in Eau Claire Wisconsin. 

To keep the record straight for those who may have missed it. I posted in several past weeks on WPF that it was an acquired model. Someone had built it with the quality I would expect from myself.  I sure had fun repairing, finishing and weathering it.  I would never take credit for something I didn't completely do.

It was one of the few times a model had spoke to me and it had Kevin's name written all over it.

I consider myself a very generous person but I probably would not gift a model that takes over 90 hours.  Unless that person donated me a kidney or a lung

 

This model on the other hand I did completely build from scratch.  I had a thread on it a while back.  (Grain Elevator Project)

I'm still looking for a company that manufacturers  personalized custom decals for it.  If anyone can provide me with that kind of information it would be greatly appreciated.   And thank you in advance.

 

Ed,  That fine crafted mine sure comes alive at night with the lights on.  Impressive.

Mike.  That curved section of your layout definitely has a lot of worthwhile man-hours on it.  Nice.

Peter,  Great job weathering the Great Northern Hopper.  I have a few of those cars myself but mine look too new.  I zoomed in on those trucks and you certainly do have a way with rust.  They look real!

Little Timmy,  Where have you been hiding out?  I see you're still doing your custom modeling.  Looks great.

Kevin,  My brother stopped in for a visit and I showed him the SGRR Round Top.  He said "That's Rad Bro"  I let him know it's the only one of its kind ever made and I got it

Thanks for your kind words Peter. I always “pop in” to WPF, even if I have nothing to offer.

 

Personally, I reckon that WPF should be compulsory viewing for everyone who visit the Forums.

 

Not only do we get to see the contributors really Good Stuff, but it is also heartening to see the encouragement that is given, and the camaraderie between ffolkes, who in most probability will never meet.

 

And it’s FREE!!
