Crossing Signals

Guys,

So, bought a model power 1681 crossing signal, and when i tested this thing as per the very basic instructions, knew that something is really missing here. This is my first shot at a crossing signal, so in looking for some info I see where some control this through a Arduino circuit, and Ive read where this needs a oscilating circuit to get the flashing lights to flash properly. So, what do i need to get this thing to operate the way it should as far as a decoder or circuit? Second question would be what is needed to cause it to trip on with approaching train? Im using NCE power on my DCC layout. It does say that can be used with AC or DC power.

You need a crossing controller.  Logic Rail makes a very good controller.  I’ve used a pair of them for years.

Recently I cut over to an Arduino and servos to raise and lower the gates.
