Yes, the RS3 trucks are the same as any other Athearn 2 axle truck. Still really the exact same design as a Blue Box loco from 30 years ago. just with an additional piece of black plastic hiding the stamped metal frame from view - back in the day, you had to take them apart and paint that part to hide it.

Mel's Roundhouse has the P2K FA drive - that's why there's a groove in the one flywheel, that's where the rubber band went to make the radiator fan spin on the P2K model. It is a total Athearn clone drive. I have the same one. Older Roundhouse RS3s have an Athearn switcher chassis.

Mel, what do the trucks look like on your RS3 ?  Are they the same as any Athearn 2 axle truck?

I'm thinking the OP is looking for the gears inside the truck gear tower itself.

Mike.

I’m glad you ask!  I went to check the gear tower and it isn’t an Athearn, I have two of them and they are Roundhouse RS3s.

If it wasn’t for the flywheels I would have thought they were Athearn.  I went into my files and found the info sheets to find out the manufacturer.

You can replace just the axle gear ATH60024, most hobby shops stock them.

They worked in my Athearn RS3.

Your talking about the gears in the trucks?

I have everything else Athearn but no RS3's, wish I could help more.  I'm not sure if the gears would be the same as in any Athearn 2 axle truck, or not.  I'm thinking they are.

Like the truck for a GP whatever.

There are a couple listing on Ebay right now one is for the chassis with the trucks, and the other is for just the trucks.

Replacement gears for Athearn

Does anyone know what replacement gears would work for an Athearn RS3?

I found gears for the SD40-2 listed but nothing else.
