I thought vegetable gardens and flower beds were their natural habitat.  Better than having a clicheasaurus allenis.

My wife asked if she could help with the scenery when I get that far. I think it's great....

If my wife asked if she could help with the scenery, I'd be worried, as she would likely be referring to the scenery outdoors, where her detailing ideas would be me, under the scenery.

Wayne

Oh that'll come too.Laugh

She picked ap a pack of deer and asked if I liked them. I said they were not really something I was interested in. . Then she said... . "But these will look cute on OUR layout". . Wow, I never thought I would hear that. I have not stopped smiling. . -Kevin

So Kevin, I'm assuming that you were smart enough to buy the deer!?!

Seriously, having support from your wife is excellent. My wife supports my involvement in the hobby fully. She has clearly said that she is not interested in getting involved, but she has also indictated clearly that I can do what I want. I just bought a Rapido CP FP9A and two True Line CP freight cars and she thought that was fine.

Dave

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

She is actually a big proponent of realistic paint schemes. She does not care one bit for the DAWDLE & DELAY,

[/quote]

The late Bob Reppert's Dawdle & Delay was actually a very nice layout to operate on.  But yes the name came from an earlier era when not only did most modelers create a name for their layout (to justify running a dog's breakfast of all sorts of prototype locomotives and rolling stock) but there was a craze for funny or punny names.  One of my favorites: playing off the real prototype Lackawanna, the "Lackawampum."

Beware!  Next she'll be insisting that all the locomotives must be painted pink! Surprise

Jim

First off, I'm glad to hear the announcement regarding buy in from Kevin's better half.

I wouldn't worry too much about the S&G executive paint scheme, though. I have a BNSF SD-70 painted in livery designed by the boss's wife. I like it.

This is definitely going to effect layout design, that is true.

things like fairy gardens in the yards, and "she sheds", and everything else she wants in your 1:1 house and yard, but can't, and you'll tell her "but honey, it's 1954, I don't think they had fairy gardens, she-sheds and the like." And she'll answer, "but honey, is this not a personal fantasy world of semi-plausable nonsense? problem settled, I win.

.

Mike, that is all true. And I will build those fairy gardens and she-sheds if it makes her engaged with the layout in any way.

If I remember, you haven't started your final layout yet. When you do, be prepared for lots of cute little woodland creatures along the tracks.

.

John, you are correct. In the past three years we have attended countless train shows together and visited dozens of hobby shops buying what is needed for the layout.

.

In all that time it has never been OUR layout until today.

.

I am excited!

Agreed, just make sure you close the grain elevator door before you go to bed.

Maybe place them in a thick clump of trees, and brush.

It may obscure the view, but after all, the forest is their natural habitat.
