Time...It marches on...without ever turning around to see if anyone is even keeping in step.
Hello All,
tstageI don't even see it in the Deleted Posts forum.
This is a thing???
"Uhh...I didn’t know it was 'impossible' I just made it work...sorry"
I got message back from Highliner, and they will fit any F7 frame.
Any H0 Scale F Unit. However, you will have to affix them except for the original Athearn.

hon30critterhope you got the message. mbinsewi It's gone! Vanished. No sign of it in my profile under previous activity? Something strange is certainly going on. I saw a post from rrebell in my train club thread briefly on Jan. 16th and then I haven't seen it since. It is still not there. As we were warned, the forums were messed up on the 16th. Strange things were happening when I was trying to log on. I suspect some forum activity has been lost. Hopefully Kalmbach can restore the lost posts and threads. Dave

Thanks for that, Tom.
I did send a message to Highliner to see what chassis the shells fit on.
Thanks for the info on the Stewart and Athearn frames.
My wheels are turning.
Mike.
mbinsewi Everything seems to always a big secret. Even Tom doesn't have a hint as to whats going on. I guess we'll see. Mike.

It used to be when Crandell, Norris, and I first came on as user-mods (mid-2000s) any upcoming changes/upgrades/maintenance were announced & posted by Bergie (aka Erik Bergstrom - remember him?) ahead of time on the forum to give members a heads up to know what to expect. After Bergie left (2009), announcements involving changes have been far and few between. Seems the current admins don't consider it as important.

Yes, the Highliner F7 shells fit the Stewart chassis easy peasy...
Stewart shells preety much fit on Athearn F unit chassis as well/ Just the clips are in the wrong place, so you have to drind them off the Athearn frame. I had a spare Stewart shell B unit I didn't want to waste, and an old BB F unit in some random road name. It was one of their super power or whatever they called it models, so it had an extra heavy weight surrounding the motor. With the 3 dimensional details on the roof of the Stewart shells, I had to grind down some of that weight as well - I didn't want to leave it off, since by surrounding the motor it made the loco very quiet in operation, plus it could drag a full size car.

Mike & Henry,
The Highliners shells also fit on Stewart F3/F7 chassis. I have a Highliners shell I'm working on for an NYC F2 and it slides onto the Stewart F3 chassis very nicely with NO back-to-front or side-to-side play.
I have not installed the port windows on the shell yet. IIRC, if you wanted the Highliners shell to *snap* onto the Stewart chassis (like the Stewart shells) and not slide off, you needed to use the clip portion from the Stewart plastic port window assembly and glue it inside the Highliners shell.
I have not tried this myself yet so I don't know how accurate you have to be when placing the clip portion inside the Highliners shell. I generally pick up my F-unit locomotives by their trucks/wheels so I may end up leaving the clip off if the placement of it is too iffy.
BigDaddyDo Highliner shells only fit Athearn?
Not sure
Their web site gives a detailed history of the shell and the tooling, but I don't see anywhere about what frames they fit.
Do Highliner shells only fit Athearn?
There was a post, the other day, that warned us we might not be able to make posts. It did not say we would be able to post but they would be temporary.
They could have said that but they did not. Conclusion they didn't know what would happen. Further conclusion, they don't know what will happen with these future upgrades.

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
That has crossed my mind more than once.
Since you have apparently have some Highliner parts, why fool with upgrading old Athearn shells? Get the Highliner F7 shell and don't look back.
Thanks Steve and John. I pulled the trigger on ordering some parts from Highliner to go with what I have collected so far, so I started cutting up the Athearn shells, and get the build going.
Kevin, no, sorry, your not the bad crowd, you are very tame compared to the group I've been known to run with in a previous life.
Thanks for the input from all!
blabride Everyone else has definantely passed up Stewarts F's. However they do run very well. Steve B

Your welcome MIke,
The only set I have left are the MKT F7's Stewart did years ago. I sold the F3's when Athearn ran Genesis sets. If Athearn does Genesis F7's in the MKT delivered scheme I will sell these. Although maybe not as Stewart really did the interim scheme between the Sloan era and the Barriger era solid red. These have silver in the lower side with a small MKT shield where as delivered had Missouri Kansas Texas spelled out on a very light gray back ground.
BigDaddyYou hanging around with a bad crowd.

Living the dream.
blabride The F-3's screening look very convincing and even have some bracing detail molded behind the screen molding.
That's what keeps throwing me off, it appears I can "see through" to the structural details.
I will just move on, and forget about using Stewart shells.
I have collected a load of F7 details parts, and I will move forward.
Thanks again Steve. !
It must have been the database hiccup yesteday - last night I typed a reply to a message and when I hit submit it said something like thread count cannot be zero. I figured it lost the database again, but when I went back, the thread was there, but missing the message I was replying to. I noticed a few other messages got lost as well - looks liek the database rolled back an hour or two, and anythign in that period was lost.
Mike,
To be more specific about the Stewart Shells they are part of the molded shell. The F-3's screening look very convincing and even have some bracing detail molded behind the screen molding. The F7's and 9's for some reason just don't look as good. I think its because their is no bracing detail behind it. Also the grills tend to be two dimensional instead of looking like flat pieces of metal.
Tis the band of pirates they have caught up to me hearties.

Yea, so?
It's happening to Brent too.
Mike your response to my post in the Readers Choice Poll disappeared too. You hanging around with a bad crowd.

We all have suffered many unjustifiable consequences as we make make our journey up the stream of life.
I shall endeavor to persevere!
I have no idea what happened to your thread or why. I don't even see it in the Deleted Posts forum.
Mike, I didn't see your thread, but it was undoubtedly offensive and therefore deleted by the moderator.
