Agreed.

Steve is right: Dr. Wayne has shown us many things that are totally worthy of Trackside Photos. While I suspect he is being overmodest about the finished state of his layout, unfinished layouts are what Model Railroad Planning is all about.
And on a nearly daily basis he posts something that is fully the equal or superior of the step-by-step articles in MR, and just as well photographed.
MR could do an all-Wayne "Oh! Canada" issue and it would be a dandy.
Wayne, remember that there is an entire and very large group of MR readers who do NOT come to these Forums and read the postings.

BigDaddy MRVP did a kitbash challenge and the results were quite varied.
Hi Henry,
Thanks for turning me on to the State Line Farm Supply kitbashing series.
I have to admit that I haven't spent a lot of time looking at the MRVP videos so far, but I think you have reminded me that I have a source of interesting information to look at in the future which I haven't been taking advantage of.

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Thanks so much for the show of support, folks, but my layout's definitely not ready for prime time.
Rob, your version of the Weekly herald is an improvement due to the nice job you did picking out the stonework/tiles with colour. They always struck me as tiles, and around the time I got mine, several downtown businesses used the same technique to "modernise" the street-side of their businesses, most of which were originally classic brick structures...I simply liked the brick version better. Mind you, at that time I wouldn't have thought about changing the model, or even painting it.

doctorwayneThanks for the suggestion, Steve, but I think that everyone here has probably probably seen their fill of it.
Steve is referring to the Trackside Photo section in MR magazine, you should considder it. Submittal guidelines are in the "Send Us Your Photos" section on one of the TP pages, check your magazine
George In Midcoast Maine, 'bout halfway up the Rockland branch
A somewhat similar building is the Walthers State Line Farm Supply. MRVP did a kitbash challenge and the results were quite varied.
Gerry Leone did a 2 story version
Only the Walthers link will work if you are not a member of MRVP

I grew up in this hobby in the day of the Revell structures, they were amazing in detail for their time, and the still hold up well today.
And the kit bashing possiblities are endless.
I have multiple copies of most of the whole line, some built and some waiting for the next interperation on the new layout.
doctorwayneI never cared for the tile-front portion of the Herald, though, so replaced it with a scratchbuilt "office" addition...

I used the Weekly Herald's front essentially as-is for the structure above, as I felt it was typical for a mid-20th-century effort at "modernizing" an older structure. It looks cheap and tacky just like many prototypes.

Thanks, Gale. When I first saw your post and read, "I agree.", I assumed you to be another viewer weary of my photos.
It's good to know that not everyone has had enough.
I agree. Dr.Wayne's layout and photos are outstanding.

Thanks for the suggestion, Steve, but I think that everyone here has probably probably seen their fill of it.
I'll keep it in mind, though, perhaps for when I get some long-neglected parts of the layout in better shape.
Dr. Wayne, have you ever sent in a picture to Trackside Photos? You ought to. I know the guy who does that section and I could put in a good word.

Weekly Herald and Superior Bakery were clones of the same building design, and were Revell kits
If you have Art Curren's book on kitbashing look there because the Superior bakery/enginehouse kit was one of his favorite sources for raw material. Was it also the Weekly Herald newspaper or am I thinking of a different kit? Revell wrung out all the possibilities of their structure kits.
Hardly Abel Mfg. was one example. It is in the book.

I need a little help from my model railroading friends. Not all that long ago (maybe within the last 6-8 months), I saw an article about a kitbash that used two of either the Superior Bakery or Weekly Herald kits. Problem is I can't remember where I saw it and a search of my model railroad reading materials came up empty.
I don't remember much about the article other than the second kit was stacked on top of the back of the first one, creating a one-story front and a two-story rear.
If this rings a bell, I'd appreicate your pointing me in the right driection to find the article.
Thanks in advance!
