I use Google Chrome as a search engine, and enter cs.trains followed by the subject I am searching for.

Yep, the forum search function is presently defunct, along with a few other capabilities that have disappeared over that past few months . Hopefully it returns with the new upgrade - whenever that actually takes place.

I'm in the same boat. Being new to the hobby and with so much to learn and absorb, I expected to rely on the search engine to do my research without duplicating prior threads. However, after viewing these forums, I get the impression that many of the experienced contributers are more than willing to offer advice anew or share a link to prior threads. I really appreciate and enjoy the camaraderie.

Late to the model railroad party but playing catch-up.....
Yeah, search is useless! Once I knew the name of a specific thread and search it exactly as it was and got NOTHING!
We have gotten quite used to getting duplicate threads by now! I have stopped minding!
I think the search program is supposed to use the tags you add to your posts but it doesn’t seem to work irregardless! Google the topic + MR forums and you usually get better results, just be sure they are actually the MR forums, I’ve had that meathod occasionally lead me to the “other” forums!

I model my railroad and you model yours! I model my way and you model yours!
When I first joined I searched for everything first because I didnt want to annoy old timers by asking something that had been answered a hundred times before and in great detail. But, like you, I soon realized the search was useless. I would put in bland, vanilla terms that should have returned a ridiculous number of posts/threads and get jack squat. Hopefully the update will fix this.

Don´t even bother to search using the forum´s (non-working) search function. Use a regular search engine and add "mrr" to the keyword. This should help a little bit.

It's all part of the on going problems in here. There is supposed to be a new system upgrade coming sometime this year.

Is there something wrong with the "Search the Community"? It seems everything I put in to search comes up with 0. Including things like Santa Fe. It has alway's worked without any problems from my Macbook before. Has something cahnges that I have missed?
