James, I believe Kadee does offer box cars without roof walks.  A quick look here:

https://www.kadee.com/ho-scale-kit-cars-c-274_278_338/

shows some without roof walks.  But Kadee seems to focus on 1940's thru 1960's with a very few going into the 80's with 3-panel stencils.

Of course you can always make suggestions but no guarantees.

But if you want some nice box cars lettered for Penn Central and Conrail, look no further than Tangent Scale Models.  Wink

Also, Moloco is offering again a GA 50' PC painted boxcar, very nice:

Kadee is more particular about being accurate in the fine details, such as tiny data, than Micro-Trains is (or at least used to be when I was in N scale).

.

I think very few people ever really care if the 1" tall lettering is 100% perfect in N scale.

.

That is a mighty tiny nit to pick.

Far as I know, they are completely independent companies. Not sure how accurate Wikipedia is on this, but the story there is that Keith and Dale Edwards (the K and D in Kadee) had a falling out later in life and went their own ways, with Dale keeping Kadee and Keith forming Micro Trains. Previous stories of the founding of Micro Trains made no mention of the Edwards brothers having any sort of falling out.

But if there is bad blood between the two parts of the family, it is unlikely that Micro Trains would want to help out Kadee.

I do not know how the relationship between Kadee and Micro-trains is currently, but Micro-trains would have images they could use they have produced the cars you are wanting in N and Z many times.

Hello everyone,

I sent an e-mail to Kadee a few days ago, asking if there was a remote chance they may offer some 40ft. and 50ft. cars without roof walks, lettered and painted for Penn Central and Conrail. I received a response from Sam Clarke, who said yes they would, but they are in need of "good" photos where they can read the small data on the cars. If anyone has photos of PC & CR 40 & 50ft. cars, they can contact Sam Clarke, R&D/Tech Advisor/Artist, Kadee Quality Products Co., mail@kadee.com, phone (541) 826-3883. Thanks.
