Interesting coincidence, I just ran across kit 1786 yesterday while trying to sort my collection between kits I will build and one's I won't. Still haven't made up my mind.
I think the 1786 decals look better, but if I used it on my Chicago-area layout I probably wouldn't use those decals anyway so it's a moot point.
Visit the Chicago Valley Railroad for Chicago Trainspotting and Budget Model Railroading.
It´s a genuine Roco product and thy did not make it for any other company, but always sold it under their own brand. As I said, the 1805 has a different decal set, hence the different product no. Roco also change the design of the packaging for all their products, that´s why they look different.
I doubt that the people at Worthpoint know what they are talking about.

Tinplate ToddlerThere is no difference in the model - just the packaging and the decal sets included. Roco has changed the packaging.
And yes, that could be another reason why the item number changed.
railandsailI do not think Roco 'got the kits from some other manufacturer',....Roco itself is a quality plastics manufacturer.

In the description it states "Faller/Roco/Vollmer/Kibri".

I don't know if Roco made these for all the others, or someone not listed made them for everybody, or if one of the others made them for theselves and Roco.
Or possibly Roco changed the item number because they changed the list of other companies they made the kit for.
From what I see on the box lids, the models are very similar if not identical.

One of the boxes has a pic on the front, the other does not. None of the photos I've found so far give a good clear photo of the cranes. I recall being real impressed withe the looks of the crane when I saw it at the show.

My Layout Plan
Interesting new Plan Consideration
Take a look at the boxes. Looking at the boxes on line it appears that Roco got the kits from two different manufacturers. I understand that the dies for kits of this type change hands often.
I think there may be subtle differences between the kits such as color and maybe a tweak here and there, but the basic structure is probably the same.
I had written about a year ago,...
Roco 1786 HO Container Crane Curious, does anyone have, or know how to get more detailed images of this out-of-production Roco crane??. All I get when I do a search is multiple ads from ebay, etc,...our modern internet crap that puts these hogs in front of all other sites to do a decent search !!. I recall seeing one of these on a module a long time ago at Timonium show, and thought it looked real nice. So nice that I bought one kit, but can't find it at the moment.

I not only found it just yesterday, but I also found anther Roco container kit #1805.
Would anyone know what the differences would be in these 2 kits?? The one is still sealed in its original plastic wrap, and I would like to NOT open it as I believe I will be selling them.
