Windows 10 cracked down a lot on security compared to say windows 7. I believe that having a microsoft account (e.g. outlook account) is now mandatory. However, you can go into settings and change it so that no password is required upon login. Thats what I did, but its your risk...

Not quite sure why you are having so much trouble with your product key. Microsoft DID change to a more secretive digital system, but that means if you got the computer with the Windows 10 OS already installed, the built in product key should have the OS activated already. AFAIK, you cannot find your digital product key without downloading special stuff to dig it up for you.

I'm beginning to realize that Windows 10 and sound decoders have a lot in common. There are so many things you have to change in order to get them to work the way you want.

It's been a long time since I created a Microsoft account.  It may be sending a text message.  It looks like you can establish a new microsoft account with either an email or a phone number.

 Evening Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and Dirk a Buffalo treat.

Not much to type about which I guess is a good thing.

Windows 10 users Do you have to have a Mircrosoft account to use it? I have been trying to get this refurbished computer running. I have created a password, gave my age (that seemed odd) and used my phone number to get my code. Computer say's I have been sent a code but the phone has never ring's?

Dirk is barking for me to come in, so later.

we have around 300 cable channels available, and I can't find anything I want to see.

My wife totally agrees!

My cousin records all of the shows she wants to watch so that when she plays them back she can fast forward through all the commercials. Sounds like a smart plan, but I can't convince Dianne to try it. She is electronically challenged to put it politely so she fears having to cope with any new procedures. I'll keep working on her.

I could care less about the commercials because I don't watch TV except for the occasional newscast or food show, and I do that primarily just to spend time with Dianne.

During the formalities my hands were clasped one in the other either in front or behind me.

That's exactly what I knew you would have done. You have your head on straight Steven.

Hands in yoru pockets at a fun event when you are 19, is ok with me.

Hands in your pockets when you are giving a speech, being interviewed always looks bad.

Good afternoon from the West Coast on day 14 of sunshine where it is 14c.

Steven, as you go through life you will learn the difference between real friends and all the rest. Early in my adult life, I was surprised by some who I thought were my good friends only to find out otherwise. I have a handful of really good friends and we stand by each other no matter what, a couple of them I have had in my life to cherish for 60 years. Toxic people, I avoid like the plague, negative and racist people will bring your mood down faster than anything, they are not welcome in my life.

Never hesitate for a moment about moving on from any situation and if you are not happy about something fix it, don't dwell on it as that is a waste of time. Poor chronic health issues may be the exception but even then there are ways to be productive.

John, I was poking fun at you about baseball the other day. I just wanted to let you know I played baseball as a kid for a few years and as an adult, I played in a very competitive industrial fastpitch softball league. I love playing baseball, but watching it is not something I enjoy. I also coached a girls fastpitch softball team for a few years as well as boys minor league baseball and then moved on to hockey. There is nothing like seeing a bunch of unruly hooligansLaugh coming together as a team as the season progresses.

I mentioned the wife bought a box of laptop cases, she ended up paying $15.00 for the lot. There were six in the carton and each one also had a laptop cover inside. She picked them up today and this is what she got. Six of these.

As far as dress codes go I have failed on several occasions.Laugh I use to often get called to the high-level meetings when the mucky-mucks were in from Ottawa. The meetings were held in the Federal Government building in downtown Vancouver. I had my own work truck and would just drive that into town wearing my coveralls and parka and would often be a little on the dirty side. One time my truck was in being serviced and I got the call to see if I could get to the meeting on short notice, the only vehicle left was a shunt tractor so I hopped in and when I got to the building realized I could not fit underground so parked on the street in a spot that was reserved for "Government Of Canada vehicles only". Before I could even climb out security was all over me saying I had to move, I showed them the registration that said the vehicle was owned by the Government of Canada and walked in the building.

Now the kicker is, the Federal Minister would often be at these meetings and he was there this day. After the meeting, he asked if I could give him a ride back to the airport as I had done on previous occasions. I said I can, but you might not like what you get to ride in. You will have to sit in the instructors' jump seat, I won't be offended if you want to take a cab. So we make our way down to the street along with the local top brass, you can imagine the look of horror on their faces when I presented the Minister with his chariot. He was a very cool guy and we got along great. Upon seeing his mode of transport he said: "what fun let's go".

This is almost identical to what I drove a Federal Government Minister to the airport in. He had to sit sideways in the fold-down instructors' seat. Like he said though we're saving the taxpayers some money.Laugh

Oh boy. Anyway… back to Georgia where the diner is this month.

.

These pictures are from Forrest Park, Georgia today. The fall colors are on display, but certainly not as majestic as in other parts of the country. However, tjhis is much more vibrant that what we see in Florida where everything just stays green all the time. The old cemetery is in a picturesque setting.

.

.

This is the NORFOLK SOUTHERN line through Forrest Park. I wish I could have seen a train, but they do not run on my schedule.

.

.

The yard throat into the NS yard in Forrest Park. This yard is on a very broad curve and looks like what I want the yard to resemble on my next layout. I did not go beyond the fence to get a better picture. I stay off of the railroad’s property at all times.

TV became company for me during those years.  If I was home, it was on.  I guess I've never outgrown that.

The wife is like that.  Either a radio, TV or both have to be on in the room she is in.  It drives me nuts.

When she leaves for work, everything gets turned off.  IF feel the need for music, or to have something on, I put on Sirius XM Symphony Hall.

Cold here in SE WI this morning.  The combo of yesterdays all day sleet, snow and some rain all froze over night into frozen mess.

Our maple trees still have leaves, some even green!  What a strange year this has been.

Going to our place in the North Woods on the 14th to close it up for the winter.  We usually have it open well into December.

The good news about all this crazy weather is, I've been running trains, and getting some train related projects going.

OH! and, Trainfest is this Saturday!  My official start back into model railroad season.

Mike.

Good morning

NWP-SWP ... You are fundamentally a very good person, and nobody can take that away from you. Walking away from a bad situation is the right thing to do. Don't look back. Forget about those people.

I would suggest working on your own model trains, and telling us about them. I recall you kitbashed a  KCS coal car, and it looked good in the photos you posted of it .  Probably it would be constructive for you to do more projects like that.

I don't care if your hands are in your pockets.  That's what pockets are for. LOL  best wishes to you.

For me growing up during baseball season it was always SNY with Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez, and Ron Darling doing the commentary for Mets games,

Steven, when I grew up, the only baseball we could get was on the radio.  My brothers ran a wire antenna out our basement window and up into a tree.  We could then get St. Louis Cardinals baseball with Harry Caray.  Holy Cow!

Steven - I hope you are not offended by all the well-meaning comments on your pose. We are just a bunch of oldtimers having grown up under the rather rigid rule of our parents with a long list of "do´s" and an even longer list of "don´ts". I have vivid memories on how much I hated those reminders, like "sit straight", "walk upright", "don´t hunch your shoulders" and " get your hands out of the pockets". I was shocked when I found myself saying the same things to my son.

I maybe wrong, but, following what you wrote, growing up "back then" was still easier, IMHO. I think there was less harassment like you experience  and a little more respect.

John - I gave up on watching TV nearly 3 years ago. The TV set is still there, but acts as a piece of decoration only. We are not connected to any provider. I don´t miss it at all. Not wasting our time watching the "idiot box" has actually improved the quality of the time Petra and I spend together. And our bank account!

Happy times!

For me growing up during baseball season it was always SNY with Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez, and Ron Darling doing the commentary for Mets games, I'll sometimes just have the Mets on in the background while I'm doing something.

I usually don't have time for TV, I have most shows on my phone but I probably spend perhaps 4-5 hours a week actually "watching" TV.

I use my phone a lot but mostly just playing music, other than that.

Good morning, everyone.  Coffee, please.  Lots of coffee.

It's the time of year for crazy weather.  This morning the temperature is 13°F.  On Saturday, the forecast is 65°.

It's also a time of year I miss baseball.  Through the season I could always find a game to watch in the evening.  Now I have to find something else to watch.   It's a typical complaint -- we have around 300 cable channels available, and I can't find anything I want to see.

After college, I was single for several years, living alone.  TV became company for me during those years.  If I was home, it was on.  I guess I've never outgrown that.  I have a TV on the wall in my layout room, and if I'm in there, the TV is on.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Steven,

Sorry to hear about your situation at the club.  That is completely unacceptable (all of the issues) and you did well to walk away, frustrating as it may be.  As far as the photo, I say you look good just the way you are.  Nothing wrong with taking a casual picture with your hands in your pockets like that.

Good Morning All,

Just a regular to go please Flo. Still thrashing in the shop getting ready for Daytona.

Will stay away from the hands in the pockets thing. Got fired from a job for having my hands that way - waiting for my ride home after I had punched out. And true enough a stint in the military will cure any further tendency.

Cheers, J.R.

In reality Steven can pose how he likes, so perhaps I shouldn’t have made the comment even though it was tongue in cheek. But old habits die hard; when standing at ease you didn’t dare put your hands in your pockets, “slovenly laddie, slovenly…”.

Oh dear, I think I might have offended a few peoples' sensitivities with my comment on Steven's relaxed pose. I didn't mean to do that.

If Steven had been standing in place as a member of the wedding party and had posed like that I would be the first person to slap him up the side of his head! However, I suspect that he posed quite properly during the formalities.

I do understand and respect the need for proper behaviour on certain occasions. In fact my son has been complimented regularly for his manners by his peers and their families and Dianne and I will take credit for that.

Excellent quote, Bear!

I guess we are just getting old. The world has changed, but has it really?

The answer is to be found in the words of wisdom by an ancient fellow called Socrates.

“The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.”

Words, spoken almost 2,500 years ago!

We are on page 5 and it seems as it I got tops!

I brought some pastry - pick your favorite!!

Happy times!

Good Morning!

All the leaves are brown and the sky is grey ...

There is nothing to add to this line to describe both the weather and my mood! I am a grumpy old man, and I am proud of it!

Looking at the picture of Steven, my initial thought was "here is a young man who has not (yet) served his ccountry". I lost this "relaxed pose" on day one of my turn in the Navy. Or, to be precise, 5 minutes after I stepped out of the bus that had taken the lot of us to the Navy base!

Decades later, I remember greeting the new generation of trainees on their first day in "the real world of business". One of the blokes had a similar relaxed pose on his chair, kept his baseball cap on his head and started to chat with his neighbor while I was holding my speech. When I noticed that, I stopped my speech, went up to him and asked him where he was from. Following his answer I asked him if people of this town had no manners. He started to mumble an answer, but cutting him short, I bellowed at him in my best Navy voice "get up, take that cap of". This guy snapped to attention, his face glowing red. I told him that I will see to  his trainers teaching him the manners he quite obviously lacked and that I will watch him how he performs. Believe me, I made sure he had learned his lesson!

I am not insinuating that young Steven is a disrespectful person, but the way a person poses tells you a lot about his or her attitude.

Happy times!

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and Dirk his Buffalo Treat.

 Man I am beat!

Work Front. In the last 3 days I have seen more customers than I normally see in 3 weeks. Not necessarliy a good thing in this kind of work. I did eak out some extra Spiff money. I think around $130.00.

Dirk Pip Front. I should have stuck to my gun's about not wanting a Dog! 3 Days a week I wish I never meet him! Bang Head Just as I thought, I have to walk him when I get home after work! Plus he has only done #2 three times in our yard?

The other 4 days a week I love the little guy! But the three days weight heavly on my mind.

John Boy Good to see you and a belated Happy B-Day

New To Me Computer Front. Have not messed with it this week. After walking Dirk I am beat. But I think I have figured out why it will not full boot up! I think I have found a new Keycode for Windows 10. With it being a refurbished computer they installed a key code. Will try Thursday, wish me luck!

Been listening to Postive Thinking by Acoustic Academy. I feel some what more relaxed.

Later, none smoking Ken and Dirk Pip say's Woof, Woof.

Thanks for the compliments Dave, you're a great guy.

I knew coming back to the diner would renew my faith in the hobby, these Neanderthals that I've been dealing with really made me dislike th hobby, I used to love op sessions, but I grew to hate them because I like to have fun instead of obsessing over being so prototypical that it becomes a job, they think I'm unprofessional, we have a train #007 so I'd make a crack about james bond when that train gets on the radio, I never would get out of hand or in the way of operations. Or because I haven't done operations forever I'd make an occasional mistake, but dispatch (the presidents son) would "punish" me by locking me in a siding for an hour, this is the sort of insanity I put up with until I've seen the light and given up on them.

They've had like 3 op sessions and 2 open houses in the past few months I haven't attended any of them because I don't want to deal with it.

What has appeared to have happened is that the president, his son, sons best friend, sons fiance, one guy and his son, and the other young guy are running things and running people off, it upsets me because a lot of the older guys are really great just I cannot expose myself to that sort of harrassment on purpose.

But yes I'd say the chief executive is asleep at the helm and perhaps its time for impeachment.

^^I am in no way referring to current events here in the states, do not take it as such, thank youLaugh

We tore down a area of the layout that was a poor execution of a switching puzzle, the presidents son bought all the materials, I have a background in carpentry and framing so I volunteered to build the new benchwork, I finished in about an hour and a half, I make a comment how I really helped get the ball rolling, presidents son freaks out because he needs all the credit.

We had a building inspection, failed on three code violations, my family is good friends with a general contractor, I give him a call and go over the violations he tells me what to fix and how to fix it, I bring this to the "click" they then proceed to harp on how the inspector is "wrong" and how we need to fight it, I say it's about 20 bucks in materials and an hours work just fix it and move on, they then argue that we have no code violations, a week goes by, they now agree that we have violations and need to fix them, I call them out on it they say no you're still wrong, then they proceed to repeat exactly what I said as the right way.

The club had a policy that you can get reimbursed for supplies if you supply receipts, I had bought 40 bucks in supplies, two people gave me 5 bucks each and I chipped in 10, after I got the parts I said I'd chip in 15 instead and the club would owe me 15, I presented the receipts to the treasurer (presidents sons fiance) she said she'd get me reimbursed, next day she texts me that she isn't going to refund me, that they changed the policy (never told anyone though) long arguement ensues, I threaten to go get the things I bought and return them, the president texts me and threatens to throw me out of the club if I do that then claims I bought more than what they asked for.

I bought exactly what was on the list and even went to two different stores to get the cheapest prices.

Sorry for the rant but I'm just now actually taking stock of all the insanity I've bore witness to there.

Steven,

Too bad about the club situation. Hopefully some of the more mature members will take things in hand and correct the situation. Your club Executive certainly doesn't seem up to the task. I'm glad you kept to the high road!

We have had a couple of situations in our club since I joined the Executive that required addressing. I have no qualms about dealing with people who are out of line. We terminated one member for behavioural reasons. The member put the club at risk of liability not just once, but several times during our show last February. It was really too bad because he is an avid modeller, but I suspect that he suffers from fetal alcohol syndrome because of the way he behaves. We made the decision that we could not afford to accept the risks he posed.

I'll say it again! You are a handsome dude! Thumbs Up

Take care,

Dave
