Hello All,

PM me with your email address and I'll send you a couple of links that might help.

Hope this helps.

Would by chance Valleyjo have a matching grey?  They have a large range of colors like that.   That large range might make it easier to mix and match as well

I’ve been interested in finding a match for Family Lines gray as well.  Here are some possibilities that I came across during my search…

·         Poly Scale F414218 CSX Gray (not currently produced) recommended by HOSAM and some others.

·         Micro-Scale decals recommended Floquil Reefer Grey # RR12 (not currently produced).

·         Warren Calloway in a 1986 RMC article suggested….
“2 parts SP Lark Dk gray
1 part EL Grey
8 to 10 drops of DH or GTW blue to 1 oz of mixed grey”

 ·         And another formulation attributed to Bob Harpe…
“in a one ounce jar, mix sixty five percent Model Master Engine Gray to thirty five percent Model Master French Dark Gray. Now add ten drops of Dark Blue and stir well”

I absolutely love the Family Lines paint scheme.  Its not a popular livery in the model railroad world, however.

I don't know the precise color, but it seems to have a slight bluish cast to the gray.

I used Model Master Japanese Imperial Navy Gray when I painted a unit for a friend several years ago. This is one of the few gloss colors in the Model Master Military line of paints, so decalling is easy.

.

I thought it was a little too light, but he was happy with it.

The ACL&SALHS used to sell that shade of gray years ago.  I don't know if they still have it available, but it's a starting point.

I’m going to paint a -9 and make it a family lines heritage unit. What color gray is the family lines?
