Where to buy...
Posted by Midwest Northern R.R on Thursday, October 24, 2019 1:48 PM

Hello, All!

I have an vintage Bachmann HO 2-8-2 Mikado #2528, That once ran perfectly, but was needed to be converted to a DMY loco. It also has SEVERAL missing parts on the lower chassis. Does anyone know where I can buy the entire frame new, or just buy whats on the list below:

-> Connecting Rod Pin

-> Front Footplates/Cowcatcher

#I've already checked eBay, Bachmann Parts, Amazon. Any other source please#

The best source will be Bachmann´s excellent customer service and maybe the only one. Hardly any dealer will stock spare parts these days.

Happy times!

How old is this loco? Is 2528 the cab number? Please understand that with HO models the number printed on the loco is not a model number or identifier for service parts.

A picture would help.

Of course Bachmann would be a great place to start, but if its an older and uncommon model, they may not have the parts in inventory.

Ebay is still a great source, and from personal experience pretty much anything I've ever needed came up on Ebay sooner or later.

Good Luck!

ATLANTIC CENTRAL-

I know nothing about the age, or what year it was made, or the ID number. The number I supplied is the cab number, and I forgot to mention the printed railroad, Union Pacific. I also have checked Bachmann, and eBay, seeing the only parts I require are either not for sale, or out of stock. Also, thank you for the info on what not to use as a number for ID and service. That helps on my rosters! However, I'm unable to get photos.

[The following may or may not interest you]

This locos, along with the 19 others', call number on my rosters are not supposed to imatate real call numbers, but they are real to me.

Here's some info form my rosters:

Have you tried Trainz.com? https://www.trainz.com/ They seem to have a good supply of parts. Another option might be to check swap-meets if any are held in your area. You could also look for an identical 2-8-2 that's a junker and use its parts to fix your loco.

That loco is from the early 1980's. I don't think Bachmann had any service parts back then, they simply exchanged defective locos.

A good used example from Ebay or a train show is your best bet.

That loco is actually a model of a READING 2-8-0, which Bachmann also sold. Later they added a trailing truck and sold the "Mikado" version as well.

Seems the one pictured above lost its trailing truck.....

These locos were the beginning of better quality afordable RTR, a few years later, Sectrum K4's and Proto2000 diesels.....

Why the ...

Why not put the what in the title?

Why an an unfinished "hook" title to get people click and look to find out topic is of no interest?

.

The OP is a relatively new user. It would have been better to have more information in the title, but I am sure he will figure all this out as time goes along.

.

I certainly don't want to lose a participant because you feel hoodwinked into a click.

Picking the right title is critical to getting the right people to look at your post.  I've posted that several times as a point of information, not to berate an OP.

Most of us, at one time or another, think we have a clever title, which is not what we, nor the forum needs.

Hi Midwest,

Please ignore riogrande's tone. That just seems to be the way he communicates.

However, I do agree with the point he was trying to make. Please try to make your thread titles a bit more clear. You could have easily added in the locomotive details so that those of us with no knowledge of your issue could have just skipped over the thread.

Respectfully,

Dave

It is still worth calling them,  not just looking online.  Bachman has and still

does issue a nd back thier lifetime warrenty.     I dont see why they cannt supply the parts. Or trade it for a newer version.    I recommend calling first. Before anything else.   They might know where to get parts if they dont supply them directly

Hi there. I'm affraid to say that this model is known for the fragility of its gears... for sure, I would think twice before putting a lot of money on it.

If Bachmann can't help you, keep trying Ebay for parts and /or a complete loco you can use for parts.
