Got a good quote for the work needed to demo and rebuild my basement, and got 3/4 of the stuff moved out to storage (in the garage) so almost ready to start. Also finally finished up the other half of my workbench, just need to finish painting the base part (flat black), the top (a 'solid' core dooor) has been coated with poly and is ready to go. I have to move those things out of the basement anyway, so I figured I might as well finish the bench and get it upstairs where it belongs.
Of course, next week I have to travel for work again, so another delay.

Progress is progress!
At the moment my progress is limited to the success my son is having with his higher priority projects, (mostly weatherization related) as he is the one I need to get things gooing on my layout room preparations. Once the ceiling is in and the wiring done, I'll be able to move ahead on my own.

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Congratulations. Its a start.
After three years here, I'm in the midst of building my scenicked staging area in a smaller room next to the main room, which will double as the interchange on my branch line/short line.
The main room has been a struggle to start. The primary reason being is uncertainty as to organize the various areas. I need a workbench for the trains, and one for other household projects, and then there is the teenagers weight bench.

It's sometimes hard to keep our eyes on the ball as we get on in years and our minds get busier. I found it hard at times to remember to take time out for my hobbies, and to stick to a list of milestones for my current build. Fortunately, I persisted. It has continued to evolve, but in fits 'n starts.
Keep your eye on the ball, Randy. Never let your goals slip away. Do like Rod Stewart does, or did, when he was on the road; build stuff, or plan, anything to keep that momentum.
I am actually a bit jealous of the progress you are able to make.

Don't be, I've been here 6 years and just now am getting started.
Only prior progress was to scrap the sections of my old layout that were stacked up and taking up space. Which promptly became full of more junk to be removed.
As someone who with limited time for trains, I get the challenge of making progress. Slow and steady. Not a race (something I need to remind myself often).

Each one is 32x78, that's plenty big.

Randy, What little I know about you, I believe you share the same passion for the hobby as the majority of us do on this forum, so I believe you'll "git 'er done"!
Also, life can get in the way of your plans, and sometimes it's not just time, or even major life events, but money. A year ago we (my wife and I), got married, built my new office/train room and took some time out for some travel. On top of that that, she retired and I becane the sole breadwinner for the time being; rough on the finances. However, I did manage to get the framework for my L-girder constructed benchwork completed, as well as having built a workbench. I will soon get the backdrop, then the plywood top on it. I have already talked to some of my fellow model railroaders about helping me when that day comes in the very near future. I never loose sight of what my ultimate goal is.
